As per my last post - I don't disagree that Sandforce, as a whole, is a good solution for a lot of users. I'm just saying that it's best to be aware of how it works and see if it suits your usage style, nothing more - I don't want to seem like I'm taking sides, as I'm not

No worries. I'm not taking sides either. Sandforce have a random BSOD issue that would worry me - especially since if I were speccing a new system I'd get the Asus Z68 Pro which is one of the boards demonstarting this occasional problem. As for degradation I need to read up on this. I'm just glad I got a Vertex 2 before 25nm was all that common. Had I known I would have bought a few more. It's not often the previous year's tech beats the current year's.

yes, they really do speed things up. Agent's previous point about the C: drive being mainly reads is correct. And at booting up, it is seriously quick.

Try and get a 60GB sataII SSD that isn't 25nm and use it for your C: paired with a HDD following the guidance on here: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/how...ia_storage_ssd

Plan to run the SSD with a Samsung F3 drive. The SSD will be a boot drive with office and all apps and one or two games. All media will be stored on the F3.

Any recommendations for drives then?
