Yea I noticed these. I'm going to keep running my current one until it stops working. Other people implemented the same fix as me a year ago and they are still going strong. So, fingers crossed......

I recently had a message on my Synology about a disk crashing! Managed to extract as much data as I could. I'm also looking for a new NAS and after doing some research it still seems like Synology are the best, it's just a shame they don't do decent ARM chips to power them.
Hi Folks,
I am downgrading to a 1821+ and am going to sell the 2415+. I actually was waiting on the 2422+ but was super disappointed to see that Synology has locked hard drive compatibility to their own branded HDD's making it impossible for me to even consider.
How much can I sell my 2415+ for? It is upgraded to 8GB of ram and comes with original box etc but no hard drives and it is running fine. I don't expect any problems from it as the fix I applied is the same which Synology themselves applied.
Thanks for your help!

synology did it with ram first which was just about acceptable i guess but HDD too? Foff synology. I was just about to get a 1621+/Xs+ but not worth investing in their ecosystem if there will be no upgrade path in future. I guess I need to just get a server instead? I've heard too many horror stories of QNAP getting ransom-wared to consider them.

This was the same dillemma I faced. however, by getting an 1821+, I've just kicked my long term decision done the path until 'next time'. I mean, overall I have found my Synology to be excellent and the software really is great. But the locked down nature of it (if that continues) will likely hurt them in the home server/nas environment as people will go elsewhere. QNap really need to step up as this could be an excellent opportunity for them to gain market share. I don't know much about them so never really considered them to be honest.
