    Moving folders from usbcopy

I recently configured a N4100Pro on our network and it is working well. We are hoping to dump some of our old external usb hard drives onto the NAS but after we did the first one we realized a shortcoming.

When we download the usb drives onto the N4100Pro they go into the usbcopy folder and there doesn't seem to be any way of transferring them into other folders where they'll be organized. I can mount the volumes and move them that way but then they seem to have to get served up, transferred by LAN and then sent back to the NAS and it's incredibly slow. Is there any way of moving files within folders like usbcopy, usbhdd and user created folders without passing them through the network?

Also...in the same sort of area...We found ourselves wondering, since you can copy a usb device onto the N4100Pro is there any way to perform the process in reverse without sending the files to a computer first?

Basically is there any way that you can plug a USB drive into the NAS and have the NAS load files onto it directly?

    Thanks in advance,
    J

    Thanks in advance,
    J

The only way to do a direct transfer is via console commands or with the help of the PHPFILEMGR module (the module was originally written for the N5200, but is known to work on the N4100pro)

    Re: Moving folders from usbcopy

i had this exact problem, i bought an n7700 and needed to copy about 1TB accross to esata assuming it would do it internally but nope, all wanted to go through the network.

you need to install the sshd module and the sysuser module, pretty simple.

then if windows based i use PuTTy or from a linux box thru terminal

then its pretty quick to copy stuff across.

if you need any help you can get me at currie[underscore]cortina[at]hotmail[dot]com

    Re: Moving folders from usbcopy

I might try the other modules...but for now I was able to solve my problem with the bi-directional usb module. As long as I can send the files where I want by USB I don't need to move them between root folders.

    Thanks folks!
