    WD2002FYPS (RE-4 GP) and Thecus N8800SAS
    After months of disappointment following numerous raid dropouts
    (btw Thecus raid reconstruction is fast and reliable)
    I upgraded all 8 hard drives firmware and then, after contact with
    Western Digital support, I downgraded the disk to Sata I (150 Mb/s)
    using the required jumper settings.
    Since then, 6 weeks ago, I dare to write that the RE-4 GP is fully
    compatible with Thecus, no more problems after writing, copying
    or erasing hundreds gigs of data.
    And Sata 1 settings do not seem to affect disk performance.
    I also get a consistent 50 to 70 Mb/s file transfer speed.

    Try upgrading your RE-4 GP to RE-5. Resolved all of my issues. You can find the firmware and dos flash utility on 3ware's site. I was unable to find it on the WD site. I've tested it on roughly 300 drives with no bricks/issues as of yet.
