Thought it would be rude not to say hello, so "hello".

My usual hobby is bodging old bits of computers together to get something to work, and repairing friends' PCs (normally by cleaning fans or installing anti-virus, nothing clever). I'm mainly here for the free shipping, but I also need some advice as I've decided it's time to buy a NEW computer (my last one was a TRS-80). However, since looking around I quite like the feel of this place, so I might find a quiet corner to call home.

Hello, long time reader first time poster.

I was doing some research for a new PC, and while doing some googling saw some threads on hexus and decided posting here for advice was probably a better idea than asking my non-techy friends.

I also found out in the last half hour that I was unscrupulously ripped off last time I ordered a new PC and feel like a sucker.

Hello, I'm new to Hexus. I came across Hexus when I was searching for a solution for getting the most out of "Cool N' Quiet" on my motherboard. Hexus had a partial solution. I added further useful info when I found a working solution. I then got labeled a spammer for reviving an old thread. I don't exactly feel welcome. Most of my answer is still there so hopefully it's still of some value to anyone on the internet that has a similar problem.

I've had an account for a while but haven't posted until now, been too tied up with work stuff, etc.

I'm working on a largish benchmarking project atm, comparing old to new; discovered various interesting
factoids. Not quite gathered all the required hw yet though, still need to get two 4870 512MB cards and
one more 4870 1GB card.

Been doing a fair amount of overclocking on P55, learning new things all the time, most recently that
just a little extra PCH/PLL can make all the difference.

I'd also like to investigate water cooling at some point (for X58 that is), though it seems to be a vast
area to get your head around for someone who's not used watercooling before, and if I'm going to try
it then I'd want to obtain results usefully better than good air coolers (I've been using TRUEs for all
my testing so far, given their very reasonable price these days; glad to see Scan still has them).
