peugeot 306 problem jolting and stalling ????

Just brought a 1.4L 306 but it has been sat around for a while, a first the car was fine but now it seems to randomly jolt wen accelerating which sumtimes causes it to lose power and stall itself meaning you have to stop and restart the car, i thought this mayb the fuel filter which we changed and thought tht worked cos the problem of joltin went away then couple days later it started again jus not as bad or often as first time i dont think, i think theres built up crap in the fuel system from being sat around and keeps clogging up the filter. . . . but any other ideas wud be ideal???
