Abit AN8 Sli – Nirvana – is it possible?

    Hi All
As you can see from my post title I’m on a quest. I've been told this place exists but can I find it, can I b......s!

It was first told to me by an international traveler from the land of AMD who captivated me with tales of a processor that could double my productivity whilst appearing to be on a single chip. I was sold so I bought it but I now I had it needed a vehicle [mobo] for this CPU to reach its full potential. This is when I was told by word of mouth [review websites] that the modo to buy in 4th quarter 2005 was the Abit an8 sli, so was again I greedily fell under its power and stuck with Abit as they had served me well in the post.

But all wasn’t well when CPU, mobo & chipset etc got married. Call me a fool but a thought that speed and cutting edge tech could be seamlessly fuse together this being the 21st century and most of theses players have had years to spin their yarns from traveler to traveler through pages and the "tinternet". So imagine my surprise when at the marriage reception, only hours after the wedding ceremony things got bal-shy

The on board USB ports locked my so [a universally accepted standard called windows xp] requiring a hard reboot. So as to keep things interesting in the marriage this wouldn’t happen under game play [say fragging with my USB keyboard or mouse] etc , no put whist using transferring large [over 4gb] important data from a external USB 2.0 hd caddy say on a acronis true image 8 restore etc, talk abbot spicing up the bedroom!

This all seems so long ago dec 2005 before fantasy became fact [I got divorced, moved house and got chronically Ill] talk about fact being funkier that fiction. I now find myself with some time on my hands to go on my travels again to distant lands to hear of mythical stories of folk who have tamed wild unruly Abit, AMD nForce4 stallions with the help of learned men and women. So I return to learn of your mystical mobo setups, driver / chipset versions before my mistress arrives [the world cup] to tempt me to forsake my quest for another six months and my warranty runs out and quadruple processors are the norm.

So if you can help this weary wonderer who dusted of his pc, turned it on to me meet with a LED POST CODE ERROR 7A which Abit say [requires removal of nforce4 ide sw drivers to be replaced my Microsoft ide drivers] and can cause my drive to whine and slow terribly needing a cmos reset etc to get windows back. If you could share your bios version, chipset versions etc it would be much appreciated as you know when I could repay the favor with a nugget of gold fact from my travels!

    hi,
best place for you to go is the Abit-USA forum as there is quite extensive discussion about the AN8/X2/USB 2.0 issue - 1 long thread in particular.
Apparently it doesn't happen on BIOS15 though.

    Hi Buff

Nice to hear from you again, [from my short flirt with Abit-USA back-in-the-day], thankz for your quick response. Wasn't that the thread that got silly...hijacked, shame about that, I left it for some months before that hoping Abit would read it and release a bios fix like Epox and Shuttle did.
Ok it looks like I'm going for bios 15 or shifting tens of pages on Abit-USA for I a hack job until Abit admit there’s a problem, don’t you just dig that crazy deja vu , its like the 2005's all over again!

Shame but I love this boards features, layout, uGuru front panel, speed etc other than its broken all the time......Abit [give us a break…fix it!

Once again Buff, thankz & keep up the good work, I for one appreciate it.
