    Doesn't Boot

    Hi,

I recently purchased my new PC in Yoyotech. I assembled the system myself. The Specifications are:

    Intel Core2Duo E6750 2.66Ghz
    P5K Deluxe Wi-Fi-AP
    Sapphire 2900XT 1GB GDDR4
    OCZ 2*1 GB PC-8500 DDR2 1066Mhz Reaper HPC
    OCZ 700w GameXStream PSU
    Antec 900 Case
    Tuniq Tower 120

As i assembled everything as per the instructions and when its time for first boot, it did start and switched off in the next second. No idea why these happened. So i request a help here to make it run as i am getting scared. I have doubt about the Tuniq tower even though i had applied a thin layer of tuniq thermal compound as per instruction and fitted perfectly without the problem.

    Re: Doesn't Boot

hm first thing I would check is the cpu fan, if the motherboard cannot detect it spinning it will shut off.

check the tuniq tower if u have a spare pc, or stick another fan in the cpu fan socket and see if it boots.

If that doesnt work, unplug everything except the power suppy and cpu, and see if it boots.

    Re: Doesn't Boot

I'm a little confused with what you mean. You have applied the thermal paste that came with the tuniq but used the Intel retail cooler that comes with the processor instead? If so then you have made a mistake, the Intel retail cooler has paste pre-applied and doesn't need extra.

Your second question sounds like you are asking, should you remove the Tuniq backplate to fit the Intel retail cooler, the answer to which is yes I would think so.

As i assembled everything as per the instructions and when its time for first boot, it did start and switched off in the next second
Make sure you have connected all the power connectors to the motherboard and graphics card. I'd also consider trying to boot with only bare minimum to see if it will POST (or at least make POST code errors).

I use tuniq thermal paste and fitted tuniq tower only not intel one's. If i have test the other fans as said by the other person should i nd to remove the paste over the cpu and if the remove the tuniq backplate can i put it back...?? this is the Q? and how to make a POST? should i run motherboard with cpu with or without heatsink over it..? or just the motherboard? And as far as i know i think it shuts down while entering the POST. when i press the power on button the lights comes on all the fans and starts running less than a second and shutsdown...?? cant see any display, etc. i also removed all the pheripherals, graphics card, ram, HD, etc. only the cpu and tuniq tower is installed and same problem. No beep for POST...

    Re: Doesn't Boot

Are you sure the internal case speaker is connected to the front panel connectors on the motherboard correctly?

If it isn't you wouldn't even get error codes.

Always run a CPU with a heatsink/fan assembly, never run a bare CPU

When people say try the minimum they mean with only graphics card, 1 stick of RAM, 1 hard drive. Though you can actually "boot" with only CPU and 1 stick of RAM you just won't be able to see anything.

If the system is shutting down immediately that would usually indicate something like: there may be an electrical short, the power connectors are not connected properly or one or more is missing, a component is not seated firmly/appropriately, the power supply is insufficient to start the computer, the computer is overheating because of poorly seated heatsinks and shutting down to prevent damage and so on....

    Re: Doesn't Boot

ther other common one is leaving motherboard spacers in that are not used and its causing a short, or the cpu isnt seated/locked in correctly.

    Re: Doesn't Boot

ill have a recheck on the tuniq tower and cpu installation. i think the psu is getting enough power supply. the board has a built in speaker for the POST and the antec 900 dont have a speaker to hear POST. i also doubt abt the BIOS? anyway will check all again and let u guys know.

    Re: Doesn't Boot

I had connected the tuniq fan to the cha_fan1 earlier which i am suppose to connect to cpu_fan in P5K. Well the tuniq fan connector is a basic 3 pin which fits perfectly on cha_fan1-4 not on cpu_fan. But the intel fans will fit on it caz its a 4 pin. As i connected tuniq what is the next suggestion. if i can't connect the tuniq then i hv to go to intel's fan.

    Re: Doesn't Boot

You can connect 3 pin fans to the 4 pin CPU fan connector, it just won't have the automatic temperature controlled fan modulation that the Intel fan does (but you can often control this in the BIOS anyway). Your manual should tell you where to plug a 3 pin fan connector on the 4 pin CPU connector the motherboard has.

Another alternative if the system requires a fan connected to the CPU fan connector is to just connect a chassis fan to it, to keep the BIOS CPU fan failure warning system happy. Obviously that does mean you won't get the benefit of that feature.

    Doesn't Boot

Hi there, there can be a number of reason why you are have the problem you are having.....

the way i am reading your post is that when you start the machine the fans come on and then the machine shuts down after approx 3-5 secs ????

if this is the case i would probably say that you have a short somewhere in the system....

have you used the motherboard spacers that came with the antec case (small silver/gold blocks) that the motherboard sits on....when using these spacers you should have approx 6mm gap between the motherboard and the bottom of the case....

also i would disconnect everything from the board so you only have the cpu / cpu cooler / memory and graphic card in the machine - and see if you can get a post....

please let us know if this helps...

    thanks

    Re: Doesn't Boot

Well the problem been simple that i have connected only the 20+4 pin power to the motherboard and no one said in order to boot a 4 pin atx 12v or 8 pin eps +12v connected to the board. I was confused after reading this line in the manual somewhere as the psu had 2*4pin power cord written as cpu 1 and cpu2 as i read is for dual cpu support i didn't bother those cables, unless yesterday i let a try for it and the board passed the POST and into the windows login screen. So the prob was simple and been resolved.

Thank you for all of your efforts and sorry for the trouble. its my error.

One more doubt should i connect both 2*6pin cords for my 2900xt? as i connected one cable and i cant see anything on the monitor though the cpu run.

Thx i did connect it to the 4 pin connector and the fan runs stable as i dont care abt the auto temp control blah blah. And i cant conenct the chasis fans as the antec 900 comes with psu power connector not the one which connects on the board. No prob though

    Re: Doesn't Boot

You can usually set it up manually in the BIOS and continue to Windows even with an unrecognised CPU but according to the CPU support list here:
    http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/c...Language=en-us

The P5K Deluxe Wi-Fi-AP only needs BIOS 0311 to recognise the E6750 which appears to be the release BIOS.

    Re: Doesn't Boot

Well the list said so, but you do need 05** bios to recognise the cpu. I updated the bios and its perfectly working with no problems for the past 72+hrs.
