lose the 8600 as recommended above. Change the case to the 82£ one as mentioned above and if r after bang for buck get the x1950xt or pro if ur a little tight at that stage. They are dx9 cards but outperform the 8600 by a country mile

Apologies if this is rather a 'blonde' question, but would a 'DX9 card' not run anything needing DX10, or would that be corrected with a driver update? What I'm meaning is I assume that DX support isn't something 'hard-wired' into the card (though it would enable manufacturers to sell more units, I suppose...)

dx9 will NOT run dx10 games - no driver update will fix that

as long as the dx10 game supports dx9 (which it should) it will just use dx9 instead.

As they have said it all depends on what sort of game you going to play. But the main concern at the moment with the new graphic cards and games coming out in the next few months is important in your choice

you can wait untill the new stuff comes out, but then there will be news of even newer stuff.. just get stuck in a loop.

There is no point in waiting for DDR3 mobo's as DDR3 at the moment is much too expensive for a small speed increase. X38 is not a big gain over P35 either, especially if you not overclocking.

It might be worth waiting for the new nvidia G92 cards, but not alot is known about these yet.
