    Exclamation Back Again...

    Hi,

    im back again.....
after finding out i may be having this computer bought for me for christmas i have decided to come check back if any of the items that i was listed and i put into a notepad document have had price cuts or for the same price (roughly of that item) can get a better spec......

    so, here it goes...

    antec nine hundred/ultimate gamer case - 80346 - £68.39

    antec neo he500gb 500w att modular powersupply - 76820 - 59.22

    abit io3d intel p35 ,dual ddr2 , socket 775 , 7.1 audio , pc-ie , sata 2 , atx motherboard - 86906 - 88.19

    intel core 2 QUAD CORE PRO Q660 , 775 , 2.40ghz , 1066mhz fsb , 8mb cache cpu - 79172 - 165.70

    corsair twin2x2048-6400 2GB KIT DDR2-800 xms2-6400 extreme performance memory - 8062 - 66.21

    samsung 500GB hd501LJ spinpoint T , sata 300 , 7200 rpm , 16mb disk - 4988 - 67.90

    samsung sh-s183a/bebn SATA - 18X DVDRW dual layer - 80366 - 18.72

    YoYo internal card reader - 33 in 1 - front usb 2.0 + firewire + audio , black - 8099 - 9.17

    XFX 8800GTS 320MB , PCI-E graphics card - 87549 - 181.13

    SUB-TOTAL - 724.63
    HANDLING/SHIPPING CHARGE - 15.99
    BUILD - 25.00
    TOTAL INCLUDING VAT. - 765.62

anything new out that can be changed for the roughly the same price..... after a confirmation of changes i may come back to check one more time a couple of weeks before christmas so i can confirm what is needed to the people buying it for me. Also regarding the price of it all does it get built then delivered as i have never attempted building a computer and dont plan on it as i may break something.

thanks a lot for reading this and hope to see many replys regarding this.....

    thanks again and speak soon

    Re: Back Again...

all looks fine to me. Its a shame not to overclock it as the q6600 is very easy to get to 3.2ghz, especially with the air flow of the antec 900.

If you using vista, might want to get 3-4gb ram as it tends to eat 1gb when idle.

Also not sure on samsung HDD's, always go with seagate emyself.

    Re: Back Again...

those samsungs spinpoints are one of the quiestest HDD's around... great if you are using your pc for multimedia and dont want a crunching sound in your ears
Only point where they tend to fail a bit is speed... not badly, but not the fastest around.

For relatively the same price you can get the Western Digital WD5000 SE16 drives... they score 5.9 in the vista performance index (highest score). Will make loading times a bit quicker and overall responsiveness of your system slightly better than the samsungs while maintaining near silent operation.

I have four in raid 0 and wont go back!
WD also have an excellent reputation for solid drives that dont fail.

    Re: Back Again...

ive just had a snoop around on the site and after areading pc format or somethign i think it is that featered a test on budget gamiung pc's the intel viper (i think) was voted best..... now onto the bad bit...

for that price i have just spent money that was burning a hole in my pocket on 2 games that has now knocked me back 90 quid (silly me!!!)
is there a way of downgrading so that instead of the quad core pro or when it goes down in price i get a lower intel spec but have it overclocked in shop?????? if it all goes down in price i may have a screen bought along with it...... would be a shame for me to get a great pc courtesy fo you lot for it to then not have a nice looking monitor for me to game on.....

    thanks for help....
    look forward to your replys

    Re: Back Again...

hi there, i think you're best option would be the Viper system we had in the PC format test system line up....
The following is a link to the system :
    VIPER SYSTEM

on the spec page you are able to change the spec to met you're budget, within each part of the PC you have a number of options that you can select to customise the machine to you needs...

    hope this helps

    Re: Back Again...

    Hi there I know nothing,

I went for a similar spec to you except I opted for more ram on the GFX card. Unfortunately mine is going back to yoyotech for a repair, faulty lan port... but when I had it up and running the 6600 was running idle at 23 degrees! in the antec case on medium fan speed. So as Rich says, I can imagine that overclocking is not going to be problematic in the antec 900 case.

Also can fully agree with the quiet spinpoint HDD, was also pleasently surprise by how quiet the case fans were.

I will be eagerly awaiting the return of my viper system
