Had this Sytem for 9 days now and ive just inserted the Motherboard Driver&utility CD to check for Bios updates , it won't run , starts detecting device then comes up with an error Error occurred in WritePortVal!, ErrCode:6 ) , and also ( ReadPortVal!, ErrCode:6 )

    Re: Frustrated

Hello, just dropped in this forum trying to find a solution to my problem. Since it's the only result I could find in google, I even registered for it.. I also have the Abit IP35Pro motherboard, with a Core 2 Quad 6600 and a 8800 GT and 4GB of RAM (4x1GB by Crucial). I face the exact same problem, I even formatted my PC and it appears again. I can still access the CD with right click -> explore and I believe so can you if you try it. I have emailed Abit about it... Let me know if you find a solution, I'll do the same...

    Re: Frustrated

Best advice I can give you go onto the Abit forum and those guys will come back to you asap. I have the IP35pro and its a decent motherboard and I almost have the exact same setup as you except for the gfx card. There was a site I was on about the same problem and they explained how to solve give us a day or two and I will post up the link for you to look at.

    Angry Re: Frustrated

OK, so this is kind of an old thread, but there seems yet to be a resolution. This is unfortunate, since I was hoping to find some cause and or solution. I'm having the identical problem. That darn ReadPortVal/WritePortVal error. I was wondering if you'd tried installing uguru off the site. I'm having a problem with that as well. It installs, but won't run. Could this be the a symptom of the same issue? So far, everything seems stable. Only Abit software won't run.

    Also see:
    123184-ip35-utility-cd-problem

This doesn't seem to be an isolated issue.

    Question Re: Frustrated

Forgive my ignorance here guys, but why do you need to use a CD, to check for/install BIOS updates?
There's no mention of having to use the CD in Abit's BIOS upgrade 'how to' guide?

Just download any BIOS update available, directly off the Abit website?

    Re: Frustrated

Downlad and install the latest version from the ABIT website.

YOu are getting the errors because the version that comes on the CD is old.

All drivers/utilities should always be the latest, downloaded versions as the CD's that are delivered with board are almost always out of date.

    Smile Re: Frustrated

I wouldnt advise using any windows tools for updating the BIOS.

Your bios version is shown on boot, so all you need to do is check if you are using the current version by going to the download section of the ABIT website, and then update using a bootable floppy or USB drive.

As Blitzen has stated, all the drivers and utilities provided on the CD are old, depending on what revision of the CD you got with the motherboard.

The best way to get the latest drivers is to go to the website for ABIT to get UGuru, Intel site for the Chipset drivers and the Realtek site for the HD Audio.

    Kind Regards

    B
