    Unhappy Vga Bios

Yesterday all the parts I've ordered arrived finally.
After building all components together everything worked nicely. I've installed all programs needed and went to bed.
Today morning, when trying to boot the computer, nothing appears on my screen and the LCD Post at the rear of the motherboard says "VGA DISP".

I've tried to change PCIE slots, checking all connections - nothing worked.
I hope you can help me with that problem

RTFM, what does the motherboard manual trouble shooting section suggest is the matter?

    Re: Vga Bios

the manual I got with the motherboard doesn't even provide a list of error messages, not to mention any solution to them...

    Re: Vga Bios

I suppose all you can really do is clear the CMOS, according to the manual page 23, you do this by setting a jumper on the motherboard and then pressing the clr CMOS button. May be you have your RAM set too high, I have read on some sites that some sticks of Patriot 2GB (2 x 1GB) 800Mhz 5-5-5-12 are not running quite to spec try setting it to a slower rate and see if it becomes more stable.

    Re: Vga Bios

I've resetted the CMOS several times and it didn't help - I still cannot enter the BIOS to do anything, there is simply no signal on the monitor.
I've been told by YOYO on the phone to reset the CMOS, update BIOS and change the voltage of the DRAM to 2.0V (possibly the motherboard comes with 1.8V as a default and i can cause problems, but resetting CMOS doesn't allow me to enter BIOS or update it.

    - when I get the "VGA BIOS" error and I let the computer work for 2-3 minutes it gets past that one and stops on "CMOS ERR" again, but the screen is blank
    - I've tried to reset CMOS, insert motherboard CD and update the BIOS but again nothing happens...

Do I have to carry the whole computer on my back to YOYO and let them take a look at it? Will they be able to help me on theplace or will I have to wait a few days? Probably it will cost me also some...

    Re: Vga Bios

Well they would have more bits to fault fined it, memory / graphics. It would be very generous of them if they would do that for you as although they supplied the parts its down to you /us /me to do our research to make sure all the bits should work together, and it gets a lot harder the more cutting edge you run.

    Re: Vga Bios

another question - is there any difference between removing the small battery from the motherboard for a few minutes and clearing CMOS using the butons provided by ASUS?

    Re: Vga Bios

No, they 'should' both have the same effect as long as you have the power lead disconnected from the PC at the time. If the power lead is in the PC then this will supply a small current to the motherboard and keep the old CMOS settings.

    Re: Vga Bios

You have a couple of problems possibly

First things first, you have high spec RAM there, if you haven't been able to boot to set the voltage in the BIOS, then you need to use only one stick first so it'll be able to boot, with just one stick in place the SPD tables on the RAM should kick in at their JDEC compliant default (usually 533 so it can run at 1.8v)

If, after doing this you still get the same error message. Try a proper clear of the CMOS. This means plug it into the wall socket, turn it off, remove the battery from the motherboard (and before you put it back, get a new one) and put the jumper in place for a couple of hours (as well as holding down the power button briefly to clear the capacitors).

If, after doing all this you still have problems, you'll need to get someone else to look over your build. Sometimes a second pair of eyes will pick things up. I don't know how generous Yoyotech are, but hopefully they can do something for a minimal fee.

    Re: Vga Bios

    - 1 stick - nothing
    - battery removed, waited for 10 minutes - not booting

    - I've removed the battery, waited, used just 1 stick and started it - got stuck for 1-2minutes on the "VGA BIOS" message then it moved to "INIT ROM"

Could some YOYO guy tell me what I can/have to do?
Is there anything you could help me with or do I have to send all parts, 1 by 1, back, wait for replacements to arrive and check them separetly?
Or is it possible to bring the whole case to you and let it check for possible errors, damages etc?
