    Re: 8800GTX Cooling

I guess using one of these would require removing the existing heatsink/cooler? Is that difficult? And I guess it invalidates the warranty.

Regarding the fan speed control - is that done by the connection on the graphics card?

    Thanks

    Re: 8800GTX Cooling

hi there, to fit one of these you would need to remove the existing heatsink and cooler, and replace it with the arctic cooling one....

the fans would be controlled by the motherboard (pwm)

    thanks

Various reviews I've seen say these won't go on the G92 8800GTS 512MB.

The fans are controlled by the VGA cards fan controller, you just unplug the existing fan and plug in the 1x pwm from the cooler in its place.

how many motherboards have spare pwm slots ? i've never seen one. Only for cpu cooler thats it.

    Hey Mark
Would this be a better alternative than going with watercooling
thats is one cannot put together watercooling, as it looks tricky?

I noticed that to, anyway that cooler is way to big, especially with the fans attached, loud to I imagine, I use a HR-03 with 120MM 800RPM Scythe Fan, literally inaudible....

    Re: 8800GTX Cooling

It might cool the card down by the stated 20 degrees, but as far as I can see it's pumping all that heat into the case, rather than out the back like the stock dual-slot cooler normally does. So in the long run, after an hour playing Crysis, is the card actually any cooler?

    Re: 8800GTX Cooling

if you buy an eVGA card it doesn't invalidate the warranty but with any other brand it does..

That's what I thought so I bought the fastest EVGA out last year the 8800 Ultra Superclocked for £380, clockedat 655MHZ/2000MHZ but it was faulty, and unstable, the stock cooler is pants, outputs a lot of heat, even with cooler swap same temp, anyway returned it and bought an MSI 8800GTX OC, changed cooler for a HR-03 and knocked 15 degrees off stock temp and in audible with 120MM fan, if you know what your doing, then it's pretty hard to damage the card, only way I can see you damaging if the screwdriver slips and you scratch the PCB, or did not make the sure the GPU heatsink was sitting properly on the GPU ...

    Re: 8800GTX Cooling

    This ia a quality cooler.
I fitted one to my xfx 8800 Ultra xxx, which comes clocked at 687,1692,2300 - THE fastest Ultra ever made.

Temps were lowered considerably, that fans are much quieter than the stock cooler aswell.
Internal case temps didn't increase at all, as the card is not heating up to anything like the levels it used to with stock cooler.

The best 8800 cooler by a country mile
