    New Build - Help Needed

Bit boring but I would love some opinions....

I'm looking at the following and wondered if I could get any more bang for my buck

It'lll be used mainly for 3D design with a large helping of gaming on the side

    Cooler Master Cosmos Tower
    Cooler Master 850w Power
    Asus P5N-D Sli Mobo
INtel Quad Core Q9300 Yorkfield CPU
    Tuniq T-120 Fan
    OCZ Reaper 4GB Ram
Hitachi 320 GB (OS + Progs)
    Seagate 500 (Data)
    BFG GTX 280 1GB GPU
    ON Boad Sound
    XP 64 Bit

That comes to just over a grand which is what I have (ex VAT that is - company comp)

    Any advice?

    More bang for your bug?
    Get 9800GX2, 620/625W Corsair/Enermax, Abit/Asus P35 mobo, Q9450, Samsung F1 320gb single platter
Not sure about 3d designing but the GX2 is about the same as the GT280 for games...

Re: New Build - Help Needed

GX2 has DDR3 too.. 280 does have a couple of advantages such as lower power consumption and better future SLi upgrade path... but as far as performance goes, there is not much between them... certainly not worth the extra £200

Re: New Build - Help Needed

to get the 280 on the YOYO Tech configurator thin g is only another £70....over the GX2

also, why dual core over quad? i'd like to future proof myself for software advances - use of 4 cores

    thanks for the advice btw

Re: New Build - Help Needed

I would think that Samsung Spinpoint hard drives are faster and has a lesser fail rate than the Hitachi at least. Also does the 9300 beat the Q6600? I was led to belive the Q6600 was faster, or at least had alot more room to overclock.

Re: New Build - Help Needed

Q9450 is quad. It has more cache than the Q9300 and it clocks higher. I would definately suggest getting a quad for future proofing and 3D designing...

If its only £70 more, then maybe the GX2 is over priced on the configurator. I would suggest adding up the individual prices and see what that comes to.
