Mate i believe you can definately clock E4300 to 3.2Ghz with the right equipment and knowledge because it has already been tested at around 3.35 Ghz on which it breezed through all the benchmarks while being 100% stable.
So best of luck in your endeavours.

When is the next ETA? I am pairing this with that cheap 650i Asus sli board. I hope to hit 3.3GHZ with an Artic freezer 7. After that ir will be the R600 and a new 22" TFT since the one I got from Pcworld was rubbish.

I appreciate these are being sold as 'overclocker' chips, but they are less expensive to make (half the cache of any Conroe - on the 6300 it's half disabled) and marketed as the cheaper CPU by intel. They are not IMO a bargain unless they are quite a bit cheaper.

ATM I have my 6300 at 3GHz stable. Would a 3.3-3.5GHz 4300 mean 10% more performance? probably not. More like 2-3% - which I wouldn't notice - or maybe even nothing in games. So are these are great bargain? IMO not until they are noticeably cheaper than a 6300.

Or, possibly more accurate, they cost the same to make - but have less features cos they have been 'harvested' from the wafer

No, they have physically half the cache. On the 6300 there is 4MB of cache with half disabled. On the 4300 it has ONLY 2MB of cache. Considering cache takes up most of the core size, the 4xxx series are actually a lot cheaper to make (about twice the cores per wafer).

At least AFAIK... I don't actually work in a fab or for intel.

is it worth the price difference for more cache?

Considering you'd have to buy a 6600 to get the 4MB of cache fully enabled, you are talking double the price - for the overclocker the answer is no.

If you are buying a CPU today for the cheapest amount, the 4300 is a very good deal especially if you want to overclock. The 6300 is still a great chip, just not as easy to overclock. It has the same amount of Cache available and is the same speed.

I used to run PR & Marketing for ATI in Northern Europe - but left just around the time that it became AMD - so I never got a visit to Dresden

Let me ping some of the people that I still know there to see if I can find out the truth !
