Free publicity for a brand which everyone had forgotten about
This reminds me when back in 2000 a few pc gamers hacked into a dreamcast Quake 3 server and cleaned house, I remember reading it in pc zone/gamer.
Still for most games imho you cant beat a kb and mouse
I always liked the idea of cross platform, but the games it was supported on weren't really enough for it to take hold or be a success. That, and the amount of difficulty that there would be in rolling it out fully and sustainably probably wouldn't be worth the hassle.
Everyone knows that against PC players, the xbox players are going to be at a serious disadvantage due to the control methods. It's not exactly rocket science.
With a PC you can have any keyboard and mouse you want and the mice now have several levels of DPI switching as well as multiple buttons and macro buttons now. As such, this is open to wide levels of customisation to suit your requirements and comfort levels.
Switch over the the xbox 360 where your generally locked down to their controllers for the system which for FPS games is like taking a shower in a wetsuit, it just feels terrible and this is why I hardly play any FPS games on the 360.
What they needed to do is enable the console users to be able to use USB keyboards and mice so that the gap in the playing field could be closed to make it a bit closer, but I'm sure that solution is far to simple for them to think of really

How would PC players fare in the likes of Street Fighter IV?
I do know that alot of people prefer keyboard and mouse for fps but i prefer using a console controller.
The only games I play on pc are mmorpg's the rest of the games console games.
with a console controller all the buttons you need are in hand reach. i find the keys to spreadout on a keyboard for fps. normally you use asdw to move and then the f keys for changing weapons which means taking fingers off movement to change weapons which makes you vulnerable to attack. If you change weapons on a console game the settings automatically adjust to the weapons type. but with a mouse you have to change it yourself.
As to mouse with different dpi settings I find it a pain to change while playing.
the best way to do cross platform would be to allow the person who sets up the match to have the following options: pc only, console only or both
I dont own an xbox and havent played one eiether so dont know what the xbox controller is like to use.
there is pro's and cons to both approachs i think companies should allow multi platform. I always find it annoying that with most multiplatform games you can only play against people using the same console.

Exactly, was just thinking about this..
For most games that /PC Gamers/ like to play online you just can't beat a keyboard and mouse..thats FPS and strategy games.
You could allow it on certain servers imo, but not by default..would be a horrible experience on a console.
surely a racing game would allow cross platform play?
whether its using a wheel, or a controller, the playing field would be level?
(apart from the 12 yr olds on the console ramming into everyone)
Joke....
