Wrong disc inserted error - SecuRom game

Has anyone ever had this error for a game?

There is nothing wrong with the disc drive at all. The game has installed fine. I've tried troubleshooting and googling and it seems that it could be something to do with SecuRom.

This is an original game by the way.

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed?

I've already contacted SecuRom for their advice.

Re: Wrong disc inserted error - SecuRom game

I've had it before and couldn't manage to get round it...

In the end i gave up trying to jump through hoops to get my legitimate purchase working and just downloaded a no-cd crack...

Sure it's a legal grey area, but i'll be damned if i'm not playing something that i have bought because it has poorly implemented DRM...

And annoyingly, those that pirate it don't have the problem

You don't have any virtual drives running do you?

Re: Wrong disc inserted error - SecuRom game

I remember having this problem, but I can't for the life of me remember what I did.

I have a feeling it was along the lines of what TakTak did though, because if you start asking for assistance from DRM firm/publisher you always end up being the guilty one when it comes to things like this.

I've checked the list of deamon tools but I don't have any of them. I've contacted SecuRom and they asked for a photo of disc and receipt. Cheeky buggers.

Re: Wrong disc inserted error - SecuRom game

Clean the disc, make sure you don't have any virtual disk type programs installed, that you're not running any process explorer type programs at the same time etc. and that you have the latest securom drivers installed.

Don't use a crack - it's both illegal and has a possibility of causing other problems.

But securom errors usually say securom or simply refuse to launch the game. Wrong disk is more likely to be dirt or something wrong with your registry/install related to the game.

In windows task manager I've closed all applications before launching but I seem to have a shed load of Processess running, how on earth do I know which ones to close down?

    List them...

Normally you can close down loads that do absolutely nothing e.g
    iTunesHelper.exe
    jusched.exe
    etc

Whatever you do don't close a local service, network service, or system process

You can also google each individual process to see what it does.

Re: Wrong disc inserted error - SecuRom game

I have had that problem or similar before with fallout 3 i eventually got round it by using the built in no cd crack, was really really annoying at the time, effectively I had paid £30 for a game i couldn't play and yet pirates who download it for free can play it!!

Re: Wrong disc inserted error - SecuRom game

What OS is this? (And what game for that matter?)

Normally you know if you've installed any virtual disk programs or process explorer, but windows 7 comes with them already so you just need to make sure you don't have resource monitor open while launching a game (if it's complaining). Several older disk check programs are incompatible with windows 7, but ones like Tages have issued updated drivers that enable them to work fine.

Has the game ever worked fine?

Would be sorely tempted to get a marker pen and write the name of the game across the front of a blank DVD, and a screenshot from a popular torrent site and then photograph that for them

Probably wouldn't benefit me much in the long term though...

As far as I can tell, it's not a grey area at all - it's illegal. These cracks always seem to either be modified versions of a copyright exe, in which case it's a copyright infringement, or they're some kind of bye patcher, in which case you're modifying a copyright-protected original exe.

It might be a very grey moral area, in that I and no doubt millions of others can't see anything wrong in doing this so that you can play a game you paid for, or even just legitimately own even if you didn't pay for it (like received it as a gift) though it's very different if you do it for a pirated game. But that doesn't mean it's not illegal.

Which makes it a grey area as far as we are concerned. While we sympathise with people doing it for legit purposes, it puts HEXUS on tender ground.

So please, no discussing of where to get, or how to apply such patches, or of recommending them, or discussing version merits and so forth. They aren't hard to find and anyone able to find HEXUS ought to be able to find these, so we don't need to

There's no problem (that I can see) with discussing the rights and wrongs, or opinions on such, but no promoting of them, and no requests for PMs with info either.

We're on thin ice here. Please don't put any "cracks" in it.

been trying to work around this all evening. SecuRom has referred me back to the developer saying they don't know what the issue is. Looking around forums it seems it could be a hundred and one different things. I guess if this doesn't work for me neither would the retail version, which makes me think that other SecuRom games may not work for me, if that is the issue which I think it is.

Windows XP this is for, updated all drivers, removed software that I though might conflict. I've now sorted out removing processes apart fro m wscntfy.exe (won't let me delete it/end it for some reason.)

Suprised how widespread this issue has been over the past few years or so. Must be loads of people out there using cracks to play games they've paid for, or just giving up and not playing them at all.

There's nothing wrong with the disc at all. It does recognise it, it just recognises it as the wrong disc, not the disc I originally used. Ahh, I so want to play this game, not played it yet. Just going to get another copy and see what happens, but I really don't think it's the disc. Would burning software effect it?

That was Ubisoft wasn't it? I vaguely remember it, made even more funny when they tried to delete all the threads that referred to it on their forums.

Yes, burning software can affect it.

What's the game? Are you sure other securom games might be a problem? (Can you play games like NWN2 okay?)

Have you tried updating your drive's firmware (I had a problem with a starforce based protection on one game which was fixed by updating the firmware).

If you get the 'crack' from the copyright owner then it's usually fine - as they hold the rights they can issue modified versions of those copyright files and/or give you modifications to them - many companies do release patches to remove CD checks etc. after some years. But getting them from anyone who isn't the copyright owner would be bad.
