    Steam's hardware survey

This could be an interesting year as people upgrade from the venerable 8800 series which is the most popular graphic card series tracked on Steam. In terms of market share for discrete graphics card, nVidia has the type of dominance not too dissimilar Intel for CPUs. As of the Feb 2010 survey, nVidia cards are used by 61.05% of Steam users, while AMD/ATI by 29.82%.

It's not reasonable to expect significant change, but it will be interesting to see if Steam's survey is consistent with general opinion on Hexus by observing the growth of new cards.

    June 2010 (N:59.11%, A:32.98%)
    June 2010 (P1)
    June 2010 (P2)

September 2010 (N:59:11%, A:32.98% - Okay it's obvious that they don't update those figures monthly)

I noticed that one new thing this survey was it told you when windows was installed which I think is digging a little deep for a friggin hardware survey. Bordering on invasion of privacy

But it is an opt in service isn't it ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Another good month for AMD. While I was tempted to say that people are moving on from the G80/92 series, the GTS150 shows otherwise. Next month could be interesting as we would get to see how Fermi does commercially (I don't expect much, but we'll see).

Well as the gts150 is an OEM only card it show that people are still going out and buying prebuilt systems.

    Re: Steam's hardware survey

Another happy month for AMD's 5xxx series. Fermi didn't do enough to register in the 'All video card' table, and only the 470 barely showed up in the DX11 table. Is it more widely available? Or is it simply the fact that very few bought the 480? Still, AMD isn't gaining on nVidia as a whole (on Steam).

It will take a long time for ATI to catch up on nVidia. The 5xxx series is top now but the majority of Steam users don't update their graphics cards often. I would say until the next series of DX11 GPUs come out, and as long as nVidia don't come out with something major, then we will see a big shift.

Yes, last time I heard at least. Have had the pop up asking if I want to participate and displaying the details that will be sent off a few times, although not for a while, maybe they save your decision.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

    Re: Steam's hardware survey

Little update as it's been a while. From the DX11 segment point of view nVidia grabbed about 9% over the last 3 months. AMD still has a comfortable lead, but it'll be interesting to see if they'll manage to hold onto that.
