Re: Far cry 2(bad news for pc)

Depends on the definitions around the install limit - is it 5 different machines? In which case that's a huge step up from previous games which only license you to install on one machine. Or is it 5 different installs?

edit: Where does it even say anything about a 5 install limit?

either way this is a farce. if this is the future of pc gaming then im not interested anymore.

i reformat my pc 2-3 times a year, like to game on my desktop and on my laptop when im away and like to play games 2-3 years after having it. heck i just started playing hl2 again. imagine if that had a install limit!

hmmm depending on how anal their DRM is, i might just buy it and use the cracks that the pirates use. if they can play it without restrictions then me whose going to buy it should not be at a disadvantage!

what pricks, i'll definitely be flying the jolly roger over this one. For all the whinging about PC piracy both Fallout3 and Dead Space are on torrent sites for the 360, yet you don't hear such complaints about 360 piracy.

Because 360 piracy is such a small proportion of total volume it doesn't affect the bottom line in the way PC piracy does.

But either way, I'd still like to know where the idea about 5 installs comes from - I can't find it anywhere so could just be scaremongering.

yeah so instead of the games companies looking at ways of improving pc sales by making games that are specifically developed to take advantage of the pc's capabilities and interest of it's user base they just throw out console ports months later and then blame piracy for poor sales despite the fact games like Total war and Sins of a Solar Empire sell very well. Games companies should be looking at positive action to improve the PC as a gaming format, to increase the PC gaming user base instead of helping to further shrink it foisting alot of DRM crap on PC users who actually buy their games.

The only games I'll buy for PC are the C&C series, but even those are now coming with DRM

Even a game like Sins that has low-end graphics and runs on most computers hasn't sold well enough to justify anything other than a limited budget development.

Games companies should be looking at positive action to improve the PC as a gaming format, to increase the PC gaming user base instead of helping to further shrink it foisting alot of DRM crap on PC users who actually buy their games.
They are doing that - but are you ready for the consequences? It means PC games will be like Peggle - cheap to make, run on most computers.. oh, and increases PC gaming base to the point where it's actually commercially viable.

Cost to produce vs revenue is much worse

PC games cost more to produce and sell for less, PC games physically have to sell large amounts more to be popular, or be very cheap to make

Part of the reason why all you generally don't see new IPs on PC software, too much risk

Also you can't complain when you just said you would pirate the game
what pricks, i'll definitely be flying the jolly roger over this one.
So basically you are part of the problem

Read my other posts on DRM, as a customer who purchases things with it and as a worker who includes it in products I know both sides pretty well so understand the need for it.

Re: Far cry 2(bad news for pc)

Yes pretty much they don't think they can make as much money on the PC as other formats and so they've pretty much taken to reactionary measures that only exasperate the problem by punishing their own customers making piracy all the more appealling.

It's capitalism and it's devoid of ethics beyond the bottom line and so i find it hilarious when the games industry gets moralistic about piracy, when infact piracy is just a means by which consumers seek to maintain their lifestyle at less cost, yes it might lead to this or that games company going down the pan (or more likely less profits for EA) but no one seems to give a crap about such things when it's other games companies forcing games companies out of business or when companies lay off staff in restructuring programmes aimed at maximising profit.

To talk of ethics within capitalism is like talking about chasity in a whore house.

Re: Far cry 2(bad news for pc)

Damn this is disappointing. I've always planned to get this on the PC as I tend to find FPS' far more immersive using a keyboard and mouse.

As said previously, it depends on the finer details of the DRM as to whether ill be getting this on the PC or not...
