I own 750 or so albums at the current rough count (buy/sell them on a regular basis, most bought cheaply 2nd hand) many seasons of dvd, many computer games on various formats and films, all legitimate. Some of the software I did not buy but got free through legitimate channels such as the MSDNAA and similar.

If I wanted to watch adult material I would do it legally through the many sites that legally allow you to do so.

If I want to watch recent TV I did not see first time I will use the BBC iPlayer or 4OD, or joost.com for short clips for things like Robot Chicken.

I own 2 supercard devices, but I actually dabble in devving for them and other consoles and don't use them for any other reason.

As for condoms/sex. Yes, but last time I checked you could talk about those within the rules as long as it is decent and not obscene

Oh y'know the native americans referred to in Run to the Hills, well it was property rights that played a huge role in them running for those hills, but hey what's a few genocides when viewed in the bigger picture of smaller EA profits.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. Personally I think people just like to moan about stuff, even if it doesn't really affect them. The new SecuRom has been good at stopping pirates, so it makes sense. And it's no big deal to the legit customers unless you format your computer over and over and over and refuse to uninstall the game for some weird illogical reason, or you are one of the several people on Earth who run a gaming PC with no internet connection.

i just wanted to discuss about fc2's drm and weather people would still buy it or not.the last 3 pages have all been OFFTOPIC.

Online activation required, so if you don't take it online you can't play. (legally)

Reading through someone said it was different to bioshock DRM. On release it's axactly the same. But Bioshock now has unlimited activations.
It's possible this might happen with other games with DRM once they've been out a while, mabee?

With EA though it might be wishfull thinking.

Well actually Bioshock originally released without the revoke tool - that came slightly later if I remember (and I picked it up when that did come out).

It's Ubisoft for Far Cry 2 though, so I'd say it's quite likely.

Games have had online activation since Half Life 2 (and maybe before). You can't tell me you're now surprised that someone is doing that or that it's unreasonable

GTR Evo is cool because you get to choose between online authentication or disc authentication. As for half life 2.. well that caused an absolute storm when that came out and required Steam to activate.. now all I see is hundreds of players on message boards demanding that all games are released on Steam forthwith. So it makes me smile to see you not happy with that Josh, just because it's been a while since people complained about it

I don't know if people will ever be happy - for years we had disc checks and people moaned that they wanted online activation so they didn't have to find the disc, and then when they got that they moaned that they didn't want to download Steam, but wanted a simple disc check Then when they got non-Steam based online activations (ie no extra 'bloatware' as people described Steam) they all started wanting Steam instead. Clearly we just need to shove all gamers into time travelling machines and show them the future for a few minutes because they always seem to demand the last generation that's just been superceded!

edit: realised I never really answered your question! What's cool with me is a system that fits in with where I am playing a game. If it's a AAA title then I'm going to be playing it on my gaming desktop PC with internet and game discs access - therefore I don't care whether I have an online or disc based check. I would like unlimited installs on that one machine, but as it's online I'm happy if that's satisfied by a revoke system.

If it's a casual game and I'd like to play it on several machines, then I think a pull down system like Steam is excellent, especially if they have an offline mode as well after activation.

With my current situation I can't think of a situation where I wouldn't be able to get a machine I wanted to play a game on online for activation. Even if I'm travelling I will be able to activate games at home before I leave - I don't think there'll be a situation where I HAVE to buy a game and install it while away from home.

It amazes me how some people (lots really) can take something that actually allows more freedom and present it as something more restrictive.

Before now virtually all games came with a license that allowed you to install them on ONE computer only. Everyone agreed to that when they installed the game, and entered into a legally binding agreement by doing so.

Now we finally have a license that recognises that people want to buy a game once and put it on several computers, so we've now got a license for up to 5 computers. There are NO limitations on the number of times you can install it on those 5 computers, because when you uninstall (under the same conditions that you installed the game - ie online) you get an activation back. All the 'limitation' is doing is checking that you don't install it on more than 5 computers simultaniously. That's still 4 more computers that you were legally allowed to before!!

Yes, I fully expect people to have activations left - as mentioned there are limitless activations as long as they are sequential, not simultanious.
