aidanjt, they will price it as much as they can possibly get away with, look at the MS share price, they need more income!
They will price it on demand, just like any other product, just like i do when i sell code rather than time.

I think I'm going to go migrate back to Vista, but x64 and SP2.
Don't get me wrong, Windows 7 is very impressive, but the obvious and most expected consequences of this being a pre-release version is the lack of support/stability with some things. Luckily, most things work pretty perfectly, especially core parts like GPU drivers, etc. But since I use this on my main machine, it's not really sensible as my music production software doesn't really work well with it. Pro Tools M-Powered refuses to even start up, and my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra constantly flickers sound - when I recently mixed down a track from my MPC 1000 sampler, the finished result had so much flickering in it!
I use the OSX platform for production mainly which is why I could wait but I still prefer to do wave editing on Windows (due to Adobe Audition). Also, apparently games performance on Vista SP2 is better than Windows 7.
When the time comes though I would love to upgrade to Windows 7 on a permanant basis but I think this will be once the industry has moved to it.
As said, all the core things work fine - even my printer etc. But my ext audio controller causes havoc with the system, like if my laptop goes on sleep mode (which it does a lot, as its a laptop lol) and the audio controller is still plugged in, upon wake all the USB ports will be unresponsive (so sound comes out of the laptop) and it takes around 10 minutes till it BSOD's. And if I try to shut it down, it hangs lol.
I really want Pro Tools to run and I need my audio controller to work properly, so it's got to be done! When they support Windows 7 properly though I will think about coming back if the inconvinience isn't really there.

Have been using Windows 7 RC for about a month now. Its perfectly stable on my computer (use it on my main pc) and prefer it greatly to Vista. Would even consider buying it.
But is not the problem that..............
Apart from people (like us) on internet forums (techy types that like new things)
For Mr, Mrs "normal" what's the NEED to upgrade?
XP which they are still running, still get's them on the Internet, they can chat with their friends, they can write letters to friends and play their MP3's and all their games work fine.
It's not like programs are not running under XP any more, or there's a whole mass of new software that needs Windows7 to run in any way.
For many it's only a cosmetic difference as things still run fine.
Msoft need to learn (and they never will, as we can see by what 10, 14, 18 versions of Windows7 Worldwide) that they need to price things lower to get the mass to even consider it.
been using it for a couple of days now. internet connection doesnt work now wtf??? i just went back to my old partition of vista and logged into the internet straight away!
Au contrare, it's the Mr/Mrs Normal that do NEED to upgrade to Vista or Windows 7 - the personal security for the uninitiated is FAR higher than such a vulnerable OS like XP. Getting things to work with the newer OSes is far easier, and they are a better user experience all round.
Microsoft have already learned that the pricing is going to be right for the masses to consider it - they are one of the worlds most sucessful companies, and that didn't occur by chance.
pricing win 7 for £100+ is not good for the mass's especialy in this current economy mess. pricing it around £30/£40 is alot more better and appealing to the general mass.
But an equivalent Astra spec'd car is over £10,000 plus games are becoming as big of a project has OS's yet they cost only £30/£40 to buy. Linux is free and does a decent job as a OS yet windows Os costs over £100!!! im a programmer myself mate and if you can sell a OS that costs £40 i bet you will see much more people buying it instead of pirating. many will pirate a £100+ software but if its priced right, more people will buy it.
No, really, they're not.
So if you can't afford a Ferrari you can buy an Astra.Linux is free and does a decent job as a OS yet windows Os costs over £100!!!
Again no - but see the separate thread that's already been split off from this one for discussing exactly that.im a programmer myself mate and if you can sell a OS that costs £40 i bet you will see much more people buying it instead of pirating.
