Thanks for the comments about the 64-bit install. I tried it again and this time I was uber patient. It still took an eon to install and even though I left it on for a good 3-4 hours doing its windows update and sorting itself out, it was still slow and annoying. I tried rebooting a lot as well, in case windows update needed reboots to get drivers to work, but to no avail. I couldn't even get the ATI 64-Bit graphics driver to install since it kept crashing to desktop during the install process. Not sure what's going on. I'd made a backup of the 32 Bit (which was surprising easy and quick with the built in windows backup feature!) and am now back to that. I tried looking for new firmware for my SSD but none seems forthcoming.
Is there something in the BIOS I have to change for a 64-bit OS? I am just being daft somewhere?
This is what I'm running:
CPU: Intel Core2Duo E6600
MB: Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe
HD1: 60 GB OCZ Core SSD Sata
HD2: 250 GB Western Digital KS Sata
RAM: 4GB Corsair Value Select 667MHz
GPU: Sapphire "Toxic" ATI HD4850
Wifi: Belkin 'G' PCI Card
Any ideas what I could try to make the 64-Bit version work? To reiterate, it takes ages to install the 64-bit version, but it does install eventually, but then it just seems hideously slow and unresponsive and running Windows Update doesnt seem to help. I'm not even sure it does Windows Update at all. Also I can't install the 64-bit ATI Catalyst Driver as it crashes to desktop during install and am stuck with whatever driver Windows 7 uses by default.
Appreciate the help.
Thanks,
