Ubuntu 9.10 is up on the mirrors

Get your Big Brown here: http://noncdn.releases.ubuntu.com//9.10/

Probably better to use the torrents, the release servers will be getting a hammering for the next few days.

Should be a release announcement soon.
Then torrent it! People need seeders.

Statistically (judging from the torrent seeds and peers), it seems that the desktop-i386 image is, by far, the most popular download, right now.

Interesting, that. I'd have imagined amd64 would almost be on par by now.

A lot of the users are Netbooks running on Atoms or machines with up to 2GB of RAM, given that i386 is more effective for most users.

I'm talking about the desktop image here, not the netbook image (or x86 in general). I imagine there's plenty of people with old machines without x86_64 support. Good for netops and whatnot as well.

Still running 8.04.3 on my desktop. Daren't upgrade it! Needs a strip down and a rebuild anyway as I need to make some disk array changes.

However, I'll run apt-get upgrade on my two other boxes and take them out of RC and into official release. Winnage.

Re: Ubuntu 9.10 is up on the mirrors

I'm guessing the popularity of the x86 image is because that's the one they have the big green download button for - the others are more hidden away and I think it mentions somewhere that the x86 one should work on most computers so most casual users would probably just go for that one. I'm currently getting ~200kBps download speed...

    Cheers for the heads up.

I been running 9.10beta for a few weeks now and really happy with it, seems like i will just be able to run the update manager to upgrade to release version.

Re: Ubuntu 9.10 is up on the mirrors

Grrr download just completed but when I checked it was only 417MB so obviously incomplete and so md5 hash was obviously wrong too (they are available here http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/.pool/MD5SUMS ). Annoyingly there was no warning that it was incomplete so if I hadn't checked that could've caused a few problems... 2nd attempt at downloading now, made sure it was from a different mirror this time, I think it failed from mirror.as29550.net but I'm not completely sure.

Another reason why torrent is superior.

It isn't - only sharing software which forbids sharing is illegal. Either way I prefer not to use it myself...
