I dunno if anyone's done this before, but they do it on a local forum I'm a member of. Basically a different photo is posted every day, it doesnt have to be by the same person, and it doesnt matter if 2 or more people post one, it's just a way that you can show off one of the best photos you've taken recently (it doesnt have to have been taken that day!)

Incidentally, you can post up to 3 photos in 1 post as long as they're within the forum boundaries.

I'll begin...

Actually, the lighting at that gig was fab, and I was able to play about with them to my advantage.

I know there was a snale posted last week, but i spotted this little guy on the wall while hanging out washing (how domesticated am i?). It's really my first proper play around with some macro stuff. Perhaps the DoF is a little short, as the shell is out of focus.

Did you use a flash for those images elmo? I've been trying a bit of amateur gig photography, and struggling to get lighting that's not too harsh (flash) but not too soft (ambient). Any advice? Vey nice pics BTW

I dont think she use flash, cause generally it is not encourage @ gigs. If you do use, try bounce it off something or use a onboard diffuser.

nope no flash, i dont think i've used flash to take a photo for the best part of a year!

It takes a lot of practice, my early attempts can be seen in the darkest depths of this here forum, and gradually as i've picked up tips and got to know my camera i've got better.

I was lucky at that gig, the lighting was really good as far as gig lighting goes, so could use ISO400 and I was able to move it to where i needed it eg. in the first half of the gig the white light from the right of the stage was facing the ceiling, and I could move it to point at the lead singer. Obv. I was only able to do that cos i know the band, you wouldnt do that with bigger bands

If the lighting is rubbish, I tend to shoot at ISO800, 1/25sec (i wouldnt go any slower than that if it can be helped!), and keep it in aperture mode. I also (now) use a 50mm f1.8 lens, as i found my kit lens wasnt letting enough light in, and I have to say, it's greatly improved my shots, so if you can get a 50mm lens, I highly recommend it!

Other than that, take a nice big card and take LOADS of shots! I tend to stick it on rapid fire so I know that i should at LEAST get 1 decent photo!

I was just going for an early night, looked out of the window and WOW....gorgeous sky!

The colours in this photo are unedited (Yellow houses are from a street light). 4 second exposure without a tripod on canon powershot a620.

EDIT: shrunk for those not blessed by 30" TFTs
