I have just been reading over at EBAY that from the beginning of April 2008, PayPal MUST be used in all seller listings !!!
What a con!
For starters, PayPal from what i have personally seen, is the LEAST protective form of payment. Its just so easy for a scammer to circumnavigate theT&C's and rob the seller stupid.
Not only that, if you are a buyer and get scammed, they make you think you can claim the cash back....NOT TRUE im afraid. If the seller has already emptied their account you dont get a penny.
Also, from a buyers perspective, Ebay and PayPal seem to want everyone to think its the only way you should deal. It just a big smoke screen as they know there is better out there. As soon as Google Checkout went live Ebay banned it saying how bad it was. They just couldnt cope with the competition.
They moved operations to Luxembourg recently to avoid any kind of legal action from sellers that are upset, that have met ALL the T&C's and still lose out. There has been a few 'group actions' and PayPal, knowing they are often flirting with the legality of their operations, did a runner to where they cant be touched.
I use EBAY a fair bit and only ever buy/sell with bank transfer. Over 150 transactions and never a problem (i try to be very careful).
This was the last straw and i closed my account yesterday.
E-Pal are so keen to make sure everyone knows they are JUST A VENUE yet still make decisions like this.
THEN to top it all off......a seller cannot leave feedback for a buyer anymore!!! So...if the buyer is scams you, you cant even let the ebay world know about it.
Rant over....sorry!
(if anyone from Ebay/Paypal reads this its my opinion and no-one elses )
