I stopped selling on ebay a couple of years ago due to bollocks like this. I might still occasionally purchase a small item or two if I see a real benefit in getting it from ebay.

So I need to sell stuff today because I don't accept paypal?
Can you list an item - have paypal as an option - state you don't take paypal, and simply refuse any payment made by paypal?

I was done for £1045 from my paypal being hacked and a CANCELLED bank card from one of my bank accounts being used
Paypal have ruled in my favour, however can take up to 30 WORKING days for me to get my money back, this is a bit of a piss take really, that is 6 weeks + (considering it happened before Easter.
Needless to say ALL my bank details have since been removed with none being stored any more, and I won't use ebay for a long time.
Yep - whenever I'm wanting to have a nosey at stuff, I always check eBid first. It's growing massively on a daily basis. All it needs now is for people to get away from the misconception that "ebay IS internet auctions".
If they can muster up some mainstream advertising power, this fact is another positive that they can use to sell their business.
Go ebid!
Thanks for the link. I've bough 1 item from fleebay and paid with a card, but with the conditions changing and peapal just taking, I've been looking for another site.
eBid seems to be more of a UK op. on this particular site, so that's good - and has a UK address.
B interested if there are any experiences of it to share.

Yep totally know what you mean about the paypal money recovery issues. Kind of same if not worse than an insurance org really.
Otehr thing is, the items on Ebay are not often that much cheaper than buying online these days. Way too many wallies bidding too high for the item. Some times I find they are paying more than I can find it for my self.
Ebid looks promising but at mo when I browsed around, there simply wasnt any high end or even much mid end stuff in the the computers section. And what few ones were there are highly priced. And the site search is broke, further lowering confidence to the general public.
Now if google could get there act together, and put up an alternative. That I am sure would take off.

Another annoyance of Ebay is the ever increasing number of people "sniping" even going to extremes of buying/downloading programs to do this for them, which becomes extremely irritating for the fifth time you've tried for an item and your sniped at 1second to go.
Didnt Ebay buy Paypal out? Im sure they did... greedy b*stards :/
Ebid will be ten years old this year - it's hardly a "new" site. I've been a member since 2000 and not had any problems yet.
Then again, I've also been an eBay and Paypal member since 2000, and both of my problems were resolved fairly quickly. I've used eBay a lot more, and really picked up some stonking bargains.
i think i might stop buying things on ebay.........
i gave it a good ol' stint (1 week )
ebid looks quite promising so i may give that a good go
but i did take the precaution of having a rediculasly long password (and by rediculasly long im mean, stupidly rediculasly long) i know a good password isnt the most secure of things and theres ways round it such as keyloggers, but its got to help an ickle bit... right...?
edit: is it me or do all ebay emails for shipped items come through at 1 in the morning????????????
edit2:i just bought some custom dogtags and now he wants to sell me 1000 more how could i possibly use 1000 dog tags? build my own army? possibly invade iraqistan and claim all custard as my own?

ebay are a bunch of ******* , i think they actually believe the **** they write in their pr postings about how good paypal is yet on every forum i visit i see ppl every week asking for help as they have been ripped off with paypal, it's about time some government agency investigated them tbh, but it seems they don't give a **** either
I for 1 will not be selling anything unless there is a way around this not that i sell much anyway these days, bring back the good old days of yahoo and qxl when they still had sellers and ebay without paypal i say
while ive never had any issues with paypal (infact they have been quite helpful in the past) ive today closed down my ebay store and will give eBid ago, while i alone wont make a difference hopefuly if many more prople do this they they will take note.

That used to be the case a year or so ago. Nowadays you still get your money back,
paypal stands the loss; up to £150 or £500 depending on the auction.
Accept credit card payment through ANY method, and you expose youself to chargebacks and fraud.
For many people (sellers) paypal is their first introduction to accepting credit card payments,
and the risks therein, but that's not the fault of paypal.
As for ebid etc, they are like ghost towns, you'll not sell much on there as a seller, and get a lower end price than selling on ebay.
If you're doing more than just emptying out your loft of junk, then start on ebay, and run your website alongside, using ebay as a marketing tool.
Well there are new rules coming into force alongside this:
Did you know that unless you have a certain number of sales in an alloted time, once a buyer pays you via PayPal, they will hold the funds for up to 28 days so you cannot release the funds to your bank....
Did you also know that if Paypal decide, through no apparent reason, that you have broken any of their terms, they will unconditionally hold your funds for 180 days (6 months) and then close your account.
I personally have never had an issue with Paypal as i have always refused to use them.
Whether you agree with me or not, the evidence is there for ALL to see that they 'sail VERY close to the wind' on the legal side and they are not in any way shape or form controlled by the FSA.
Basically, if you dont comply to their conditions, which if you read them thoroughly, its almost impossible to do, then sooner or later you will incur their wrath.
Millions of people cant be wrong!
