I've been Googling around trying to find any such reference, drawing a blank so far (apart from several references to them not requiring a minimum number of transactions or sales). Which forums? Did they happen to have a link?

    They did yes.
It was on the EBAY forums and the link went to another EBAY page.

I've been reading through threads on the EBAY forums and can't find any reference to this. The closest I got was a reference to AMAZON escrow where payments are held for 28 days - except that it wasn't actually true.

Any links or proof would be most appreciated, as it sounds most unlikely. I think maybe you've misread or misunderstood a post there.

Re: Ebay & PayPal........They are taking over the world with new terms!!!

I nearly got done by paypal myself. I sold an item on Ebay, and the person that bought it was from the US. Initially they werent paying up, so after sending a few friendly reminders I told them I was going to have to report an unpaid item. They finally got back to me saying they were having problems with paypal and could I give them a few more days; given that Im a nice sort of person and really needed to shift the item I agreed. They paid up like they said, I shipped the item and tracking confirmed its arrival, end of story, or so I thought. A few weeks later I get an email from paypal saying that a claim has been brought againsy me for "unauthorised removal of funds", seems the person I sold the item to wasnt happy for some reason, so they thought they would keep the item and have their money back too. I check my paypal account and they have blocked off the £40 I had on their and my balance is showing negative £20, so I owe paypal 20 quid! I knew I hadnt done anything wrong so I sent paypal the shipping info and tracking which matched the email and home adress of the account holder and proved the item had arrived. That was the last I heard.
I checked back a few weeks later and miraculously the case had been dropped. Did I get an email informing me of this? No! Did I get any emails explaining what had happened? No! They just left me in the dark, thinking I had just lost £60 quid. Thankfully I came out on top, know plenty of people who have had similar experiences and ended up losing both the item and the money even though they are well respected Ebay sellers. Now thats what I call customer service!

Re: Ebay & PayPal........They are taking over the world with new terms!!!

I have a small online business and use Google checkout, no problems so far. Ebay should never have been allowed to ban it. The rate is much better than Paypal. I don't get ebay at all... people buy second hand junk for a higher price than they could buy it brand new, the seller has to pay listing fee, final price fee, paypal fee etc. The only winner is eBay itself.

I stopped using iTunes because it bugs you to use safari. I'll stop using ebay if I'm forced to use paypal. Only way they'll learn.

Re: Ebay & PayPal........They are taking over the world with new terms!!!

I've just tried to list some CDs on ebay - and it says "Paypal may hold some of your payments in your account. Paypal will release the hold when you receive positive feedback or after 21 days without a buyer dispute, claim, chargeback or other action."

What the chuff is going on!?!! So I have to sell the item, post it, and then hope they leave positive feedback before I actually get paid for the item!?!

Screw this I may as well just bin the CDs or give them to a charity shop!!!

edit - you lot can benefit from this http://forums.hexus.net/classifieds-...e-cds-all.html

Re: Ebay & PayPal........They are taking over the world with new terms!!!

I started my online business, using eBay and learnt very quickly the loopholes people will exploit in trying to rip you off.

credit card chargebacks, being the worst.... paypal appear to be completley powerless when this happens.

I agree with the fees argument, listing fee, final value fee, paypal transaction fee... BUT even so, when you consider the marketing and the potential customer base you can reach, it's well worth it, despite all the fees.

there are 2 sure fire ways of gaining recognition on the internet, as a startup business, sell on eBay and join a forum.... both have proven to be worth their weight in gold.

I disagree with a lot of the new practices being brought in by eBay/paypal, but what can you do? they well and truly have you by the danglies

I didn't know about any of these new terms 'til I read this post.

No more selling for me on ebay. If people are stupid enough to list their items on there now I'll still buy them though.

Dunno why that didn't happen to me last week then. It doesn't confirm what you've said at all - I've certainly never sold 20 items in a month. Heck, I expect I've only sold a couple more than 20 items in the last eight years.

It could be any number of things - unverified PayPal account, minimum requirement of positive feedback, a certain item class... you can't honestly think you've just confirmed that people need to sell a minimum of 20 items a month on Ebay or else Paypal will hold their funds for 28 days based on Joshwa's post, do you? If that's the case, then my experience with item listing last week PROVES YOU WRONG. So there.

Seriously, I'd really like to see a link to that post, or eBay's official announcement regarding this - I couldn't find it or anything remotely like it. If Joshwa's experience is based on this alleged new rule, then you've already exaggerated the number of days they hold money. I'd be keen to make sure you haven't made any other mistakes.
