    Do you shop at OcUK?

    Hi All,

If this type of question isn't allowed here please delete it, I'm not trying to start arguments just satisfy my curiosity.

Do/have you shopped at OcUK (overclockers)? They seem to have a huge following on their forum and I'm interested to find out why because of what I've seen they charge much more than competitors. Example of spec I'm just about to buy: £662 eBuyer, £680 SCAN, £810 OCUK... £148 more than the competition for the exact same spec

Do they have some kind of magical super-amazing customer service ?

    Please enlighten me. Thanks!

the only one out of those that have magical super-amazing customer service is SCAN

ebuyer are allright aslong as nothing goes wrong... and OCUK.. personally i have never tried because of all of the horror stories there are around (i.e. selling B Grade stock as new, etc) (but i can't accuratly comment because i havn't used them....)

Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

They are good at some of the harder-to-get/enthuasiast stuff, like watercooling/top-end air for example as that's still a very small niché that less than a handful of e-tailers exist for. I bought an Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme 8800 VGA cooler from there a good while ago since next to no-one in the UK stocked it, and their postage is quite reasonable for some of their smaller items (I paid £2.89 or something for the ACAX that weighed about 800-1000g).

Everything else is a big rip-off. They put some items in particular on their This Week Only sometimes up to 3-4 times in a row due to having too much stock! Take the Abit IP35 Pro or ASUS P5K Premium which took an age and a half to drop in price on there, and that was on offer AND still more expensive than the likes of Scan and ebuyer. Shipping for stuff like motherboards and graphics cards are over £8 too with no economy service, which unless I'm urgently after something I can only see on there am very reluctant to pay extra on top of the item.

Did I mention they price gouge like crazy on new product launches because they sleep with the boss of the main UK importers, hence getting most of the initial stock?

That's why I stick to checking Scan and ebuyer, dabs and possibly others to find something, and obviously monitor pricing on new products since you save so much on the cost.

They took the wee wee last week with the GTX 280. £78 more delivered than ebuyer, or 20% extra, on a single product (and that was their cheapest too!)

Bit of a rant that, woah.

Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

Prices in the past were at least competitive enough that i would drive up (its about 30 mins) and pick the pieces up. But now, there a lot more expensive for when im buying new parts that its cheaper to simply order next day delivery from scan/ebuyer.

I havent had any horror stories with items purchased from them, but i have had horror waits whilst in there shop. There so SLOW that sometimes im 3/4th in the queue and have to wait 1h30mins + before i eventually get my stuff, its an absolute shambles sometimes in there with wait time, this isnt just once or twice either, but probably 70% of my visits, require waiting 30-60mins in the shop to get served.

Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

I rarely shop at OCUK but never had a problem with them. I normally get my RAM from them and occasionally a graphics card which are normally the only two things they sell cheaper than most.

The ONLY thing i will buy from them is RAM.
This is because i can RMA direct to the manufacturer if there is a problem.

    Anything else......................NO CHANCE!

Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

Bought a monitor, because I had waited 4 months for Scan to stock it and they still hadn't got it in yet.

Anything else, no way, their prices are too high, as is postage, and the service is average at best I have found.

Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

I have bought quite a bit of stuff of them, never had any real problems.

At the end of the day it is the price + del total that matters to me as I live in NI, if OcUK is the cheapest I can find on the internet, I buy there, but if I find the item cheaper elsewhere, that is the place I will buy from.

As already pointed out EVERY online outlet has horror stories that can be told about them.....

Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

Before their website change yes I did, after no. It seems ever since they upgraded their website they have been charging inflated prices.
If I want something fast then I'll use Ebuyer, upto 8pm for next day delivery is frankly outstanding. Otherwise I'll just use Scan most of the time since they are normally cheapest on most things (especially when you factor in free delivery).

Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

ChilledPC has cheaper watercooling parts than OcUK and cheaper delivery.

eBuyer are amazing. Takes less than a week for an rma to be sorted. Twice in a row my boards have been picked up on a Friday and a new one already on it's way by Monday. They have a bit more ram than Scan but like Blitzen said OcUK are the place for ram choice.

I only use OcUK on rare occasions for things you can't get elsewhere. All the other times I have used them they have been fine. But I've never had to rma to them so I can't tell you the bad bits.

Scan are good too. Never had any major problems and their rma is fairly fast. Haven't tried rma replacements but I have faith in them.

what are you talking about? ebuyer are better than scan when something goes wrong!

ebuyer used to have a bad rep about 7 years ago, but that is well in the past... then are 2nd best retailer in my list.
    1) Amazon (they call you for free - you dont have to call them and pay for premium 0870 number!)
    2) ebuyer (best rma service by far - sends courier to collect item)
    3) scan/novatech - haven't rma'ed to either (i might have rma'ed to scan once 5 years ago, but i can't remember lol)
