Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

I have bought from them 3 times;

1. around a year or 2 ago. Just some ram, it was cheap and quick. no problems
2. logitech ipod speaker, £45 was a bargain, no problems
3. ordered a case and psu. forgot to add a keyboard so i used their message system and they added it to my order promptly.great. Then everything got delivered except for the case, so i emailed them and they said that they were having trouble locating the case??? what??? so whatever, i told them to refund. OK, 1 month later still no refund so i emailed them again and they said they have refunded it. ok **** it. i will count £30 as a loss -_- 3 months later when i check my bank account they finally refunded me; 4 months late.

They need that 50p interest, otherwise they would starve to death

Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

I ordered my whole previous pc from them, getting on about 5 years ago now. No problems at all, although I'm sure alot can change in 5 years. Also, I've not had to send anything back either. I find their site easier to navigate than Scan's, but I'll be buying from Scan from now on after recently receiving good service from them. So, no bad experiences from OCUK from me.

And another thing (don't know how I forgot) I ordered my g/f's father's rig from there recently (about 6 months ago) and built it. Again, no problems. Fast service. Like many have said, they're good to buy from if the price is right, but I've heard bad stories if parts go wrong...

Remember, not everything you see on a forum is as it seems, and there's often more to a decision than meets the eye. Decisions that may seem to members to be arbitrary and strange sometimes have good reasons behind them. What may seem "over-zealous" to you may have a perfectly valid but non-public reason behind it. That's true on OcUK and it's true here. And as a member of the mod team here, and an ex-Mod on OcUK (as indeed is the owner of Hexus and a few others here), I'm in a better position than most to know.
Saracen as an ex-mod on their forums perhaps you'd like to give your opinion and how their forums are/were moderated??? If not I suggest people google for file called <removed by Saracen>, it makes some very funny/interesting reading if I remember it correctly.

Certainly after my RMA experience with an incompetent employee of their's and getting the run around for 4 months over getting the replacement card; and then reading the posts contained in that file I no longer use their shop or forum and advise everyone else to steer clear of them.

Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

I buy most of my things from ocuk, and any problems ive ever had have been sorted pretty quickly

Ebuyer on the other hand... no chance im EVER buying from them again, slow responses from there customer services, there simply NOT interested in helping, ill probably never see £140 of my money ever again

Scan - havent bought much through them but havent really had any issues

city-link are the biggest curse on all Etailers though sadly

As is the case with most courier firms, you cannot blanket them with such statements.

A lot is down to your local depot, its staff, its location relative to you etc.

For me, I only ever want Citylink to deliver! The likes of Amtrak, HDN, Fedex, DHL etc are just a complete and utter PITA for me.

As for OcUK.......I used them years ago. Got messed around, sent the wrong parts (after triple checking that the board I was ordering was socket 939.....and I received a socket 754.....), got made to run around for a refund (which I never got) and finally they sent the board back to me and made me keep it!

I'd never ever use them again. Once bitten.....

=0 City-Link are the best.

Even tho I never choose a fixed delivery time and independent of who I have ordered from, I know they will always arrive between 10:00 to 10:30 and the pakage in perfect condition; my 22" moniter in its original box with no extra pakaging arrived without a dent.

I don't know how they are moderated, these days, because I don't have an account there and haven't had for a long time.

As for how they were moderated, that's is a very wide question. The phrase "firmly" comes to mind, but it's a very subjective description. There were certainly very lively discussions, even some raging arguments, on some issues. There was a lot going on at the time I was there, and some of it I've found out more about since I left. The moderating stance was quite rigid in places, and in places, it both needed to be and deserved to be. The reason is that there were people who, for whatever reason and with whatever justification they either had or thought they had, were out to cause trouble.

As for the specifics of what happened in the mods room, I don't intend to discuss that, partly because it was years ago and I'm not even sure I can remember much of it. As for the file you mentioned, I don't have it and a few minutes on Google doesn't locate it, so I can't even comment on whether it's genuine or has been edited or falsified. I have no idea. And even if I did see it, I probably still couldn't be sure. It may be heavily based on genuine things, but subtly edited. Without being able to refer to the original, how can even someone that was there be sure?

Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

Used to shop at OcUK years and years ago, when i wasn't really clued up on anything, had to RMA a psu once, and that was sorted out pretty quickly. Also, i've had as much trouble with citylink delivering from OcUK as any other site that sues them, but i'll put that down to city link being rubbish and me living in the middle of no-where.

I've had alot more grief from other websites... Dabs for example, i'd NEVER shop there again.

Why?

Their forums are part of OCUK outfit and as such directly reflect on the shop itself. By deleting my post with a link to that file only leads to more conjecture and conspiracy theories. Neither I nor Hexus is hosting the file so there is no legal implication either.

All the time I've been a member of Hexus, discussion of OCUK and their forums has been suppressed yet no one will give a direct and complete explanation of why. That's fine and I can live with that, it's the owner of Hexus' right but really it should be in the forum rules and then we all know where we stand.

I agree to jimborae. The people running the forums are the same running the shop afaik... From what I have read in that file, I would rather not be involved with, or deal with OcUK at all.

Re: Do you shop at OcUK?

I used to use them a lot a few years ago, when i first started really buying a lot of things for myself computer-wise. back then i never really had any problems to be fair. most of the time now i tend to use ebuyer, but i really don't spend as much as i used to, ie my system hasn't been touched for about 2 years now.

as for couriers... i work with DPD a lot for work, and its sad to say that in a business like couriers it only takes one or two people to not care and stuff can get broken. its affected me a lot at work :<

I did not delete your post - don't assume

The bottom line is this is the shopping section of the forum. How they run their forum is up to them. Don't like it? Don't visit.
Think their forum reflects badly on OCUK? Don't buy from them.

As for the legal implication - unless you're a lawyer, its not really fair to say that. The law that governs things like this is not simple and very complex.

OCUK talk being suppressed? I suppose it depends at which way you look at it. We are just tired of seeing the same crap come up time and time again, along with the same misinformation that comes with it (OCUK asked to be removed from the HEXUS trust is my favourite!) - if we correct it, it doesn't get listened to anyway. The threads simply turn into flame bait for OCUK haters.

Oh and its not _because_ its OCUK that I said that - the same would go for any forum that is constantly getting bashed. If people have an issue with them - tell them, not complain about it here.

There is no need to add it to the rules (not that people would listen to it ) when we can simply ask in threads. That IMO is more than enough to know where you stand - if you're still unsure, ask one of us If anything towards a certain retailer / forum was added in the rules it would simply lead to threads asking "Why can't we talk about XYZ", leading to far more "conspiracy theories" than those that come (if there are any ) from us asking for people not to bash other forums.

To keep it nice and simple
Any retailer shop comments that are professional = fine
Any retailer shop comments that are abusive and add nothing to the conversation = are not
Bashing other forums for their rules / running = are not
