Downloading now. Derthballs, what do you mean by jumpy? What exactly happens? What settings/hardware are you running?

Can I make a suggestion that the next version has a simpler file name? Something like Catalyst 5.2 would be a lot easier to file for a future reinstall than the huge string we've got at the moment.

    No easy way around that

The point of an integrated driver system is that it includes lots of clever code for a variety of hardware

As such, when we bring everything together from all the different teams - we need a way to identify (specifically) that individual 'pack'

To make sure we know exactly which 'special blend' of herbs and spices went into a particular pack...

...we maintain the 'cool' long name

    Question

    Mr. Andrzej,

I have a question about issues arising with Jane's F/A-18. I know this is an older game but there have been issues with seeing gridlines in the water and a slowdown in Air to Air mode.

See post and workarounds here: http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boa...;f=32;t=006913

I guess what I'm asking is: Can you ATI Catalyst people look at this problem and see where its coming from in the drivers? Or, are we into an old software coding issue in the game programming itself that would need to be addressed by the game programmers? While there are workarounds, there is a devout following to the game and would ATI consider looking into these issues?

Thanks so much for all your input and responses on these boards. Its great to see someone "in the know" being involved and listening to us end-users.

Without even checking I can tell you that the answer will be that because of the massive number of games on the market (which grows almost daily) - then the chance of getting specific driver modifications for a DX7-era game is really unlikely... from us or any of the competition

</hangs this one on the developers>

The real issue is that games written at the DX7 level would have included tons of really complex hand-coding

The tools available around DX8 started to get sensible - and the DX9 generation with full HLSL (Microsoft's industry standard High Level Shading Language) support are a completely different animal

This may not be precise - but let me try to give the people reading this reply a 'real world' situation that may make this a little clearer...

After reading an advert in Loot, you decide to invest £3,000 in a 'classic' Jag

You see it - fall in love with it - and pretty soon you are 'Morsing it around the Oxfordshire countryside'

Some time later you discover a weird noise in the engine

You take it to the local specialist who informs you that this type of Jag engine has an 'issue' that was only discovered years after the factory stopped making them - that the engine is knackered and that the fix - while not really complicated - will involve getting Castrol to produce a revolutionary type of motor oil

The fix might be simple - but getting a global corporation to create a synthetic lubricant to solve a problem experienced by a few hundred owners of one particular model that has not been made for several years is not likely

The best solution is for Jag to revamp that classic car (e.g. E-Type) as the 'XK25' and then sell it to the enthusiasts (you) for £39

    </hanging>

    or

    2) Let me know exactly how to create the issue you are reporting

    Any info appreciated
I actually re-installed my system from scratch last night (enabling RAID-0 in my Raptors). Formatted using NTFS filesystem (full format, not quick format). Installed the Catalyst 5.2 as the last set set of drivers. Then installed FS2004 and patched it.

FS2004 works fine now. It also worked fine with 4.12, but not 5.1. I'll test a bit more over the weekend but things are looking good (PCMark04, 3DMark05 all worked okay as well with the 5.2).
