Re: The end is near... (football relegation talk)

Very unlikely that the successor at LCFC will be able to motivate the squad in the same remarkable way that Pearson did - though that level of over reaching effort was not sustainable for much longer without lots of injuries IMO.
Not been in Leicester long, really enjoyed the spirit and banter with the locals as LCFC somehow escaped relegation - I really do not envy them having to go through it all again.

Re: The end is near... (football relegation talk)

unless they can land Martin O Neil again they have just sacked the best manager they could have hoped to have - and indeed IMO the best manager they have had since MoN. They'll end up with some 2nd rater another mediocre Sven at best or at worst another Paulo Sousa. Do I sense another "5 managers in one season" special a la 2010-2011?

I've just been going through some of the stats on the wiki page. Pearson has the best win % for games played of any manager in their history (his first spell in charge) and the 4th best (his second spell in charge). His win % exceeds Martin O'Neill, but I guess MoN did land some silverware. I have to say I prefer the style of play Pearson has favoured, with proper attacking play and not just battening-down the hatches and trying to nab a set-piece like other managers (e.g. allardyce etc) would almost certainly have retreated to last season. MoN left them in 2000 and apart from Micky Adams' brief stint during the yoyo years they haven't had a stable manager since then - until Pearson in 2011.

Why oh why did they sack him? It makes no sense. The squad is tight and united, camaraderie through the roof, finished the season on a high with key players renewing their contracts. I wonder if it is some transfer budget/medelling thing that hasn't been made public.

Re: The end is near... (football relegation talk)

I would start a new thread for the new season, but with Ranieri at the helm i think the current title is quite relevant. I'm not a betting man, but surely it's a done deal for relegation and Ranieri being fired. FFS the owner has cut his nose off to spite his face getting rid of Pearson. What a muppet.

The unsinkable manager, meet the no-chance team.

Who will break first? There's only one way to find out! FIIIIIGHT.

We have shot ourselves in the foot. Sacked the best (technically) and most successful manager we've had(...ever?) as he start poorly.

At the risk of sounding like a geordie, I think Short pulled the purse strings very tight very suddenly. Lens is a great signing, so is M'Vila (but on loan). But I feel one thing has been told to Advocaat ("Loads will be spent") and another to Congerton ("Penny pinch").

Advocaat clearly said 5 or 6 international players of high quality. He got a couple forward options and then some bargain basement defence options.

I wouldn't even mind if we got relegated. We deserve it. It'll give us a clean break and allow us to ship some really high earning players. Fletcher, Johnson, Rodwell. Have all shown glimpses recently but not put it down on the pitch when we needed them too. And who knows, we might not even need to sell Johnson!

Clear out our CB's, Koubles can go, you don't want an injury prone CB, he needs to be a total rock for you. Coates, Brown, O'shea need gotten rid of. Get some proper fresh blood. Adam Mathews could be interesting and I'm keen on Van Aanholts super aggressive play style but you need goed CB to cover that. And with Advocaat getting the fullbacks to bomb up he really needed that, but just didn't get it.

Dropping down would also give the Academy a chance to return it's investment because all it's produced is Henderson and Colback. And we didn't even sell Colback!

One positive to take away from the start of this season, at least we weren't boring. We scored and conceded and we played fast aggressive football. Poorly, at times but the intention was there. The quality was just lacking.

Now with Big Sam. It's going to be tight and regimented. Defoe will be happy as he's going to played a CF again and probably Borini tucking in in front of him. But Lens hasn't got the temper to play tight football, Toivenen is a creative player who plays well high up the pitch, will he be selected as part of a midfield two? Probably not. So we'll play M'Vila/Cattermole and probably Nolan when he signs on a free.

I despair. We're going down and we're going to be boring about it!

Hopefull, the mags come with us and we pass the smoggies who are travelling up!

Re: The end is near... (football relegation talk)

After a good couple of seasons at West Ham, Allardyce completely lost the plot for reasons unbeknown. He morphed into a defeatist and a bitter buffoon whilst deploying inexplicable tactics. Reading some exerts from his unintentionally hilarious autobiography, it's evident he's still a lost it clown. I don't think the Mackems have any idea what's coming their way. They soon will.

Indeed, severe leadership issues at Newcastle. The usual injury issues have already struck... for a brief period we weren't at the top of the Injury table... didn't last long.

Re: The end is near... (football relegation talk)

I thought it was going to end up 9-8 after the first 20 minutes. Glad it didn't. Good win, but we won't be able to defend like that against the top teams and come away with a win...
