We are just having a play about with the over clock at the moment trying to hit 3.8-4.0 GHz with it being a D0 chip

    Hi Starfry,

Systems built and on test at 4Ghz, only down side its running a little warm peaking at about 90degrees rooms at about 28degrees.

SonyClowns is running cooler with a thermal right cooler we can swap it over if you like??

    Cheers

    Re: Starfry's - 3XS X58 Core I7 Build

Hi yes, please can you use whatever cooler is most appropriate. I think the Thermalright was originally on my list but the Noctua was recommended. Can't remember who, Paul maybe when I placed the order. I presume you're talking of the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme 1366RT LN25719 ?

I'll go with your recommendation, whatever that is It's great we're hitting 4G!!!!

    Many thanks.

    Re: Starfry's - 3XS X58 Core I7 Build

    Hi Starfry,

Its passed over clock stress test

Gonna have a look if we can swap the cooler to something else mind, as its running a little to hot.

I personally prefer the Noctua coolers they are a lot more solid and quieter the only problem being they don’t cool high over clocks like this as well

    Cheers

    Re: Starfry's - 3XS X58 Core I7 Build

    Starfry,

Just been speaking with the engineers, they swapped the thermal paste yesterday from the standard noctua stuff to CF2 as such the temps dropped to within a couple of degrees of the thermal right coolers.

Were now happy with the results from the Noctua..... are you?

    Cheers

    Re: Starfry's - 3XS X58 Core I7 Build

Whichever runs coolest I guess is the best choice ?

I really have to bow to your expertise here on this one. The noctua was recommended by one of the scan guys but if it turns out that the thermalright is cooler then maybe we should use that?

I'll go with whatever you think best, Phillip.

    Re: Starfry's - 3XS X58 Core I7 Build

I would personally stay with the Noctua when we have used the CF2 paste the performance is on par with the thermal right.

We are happy to ship the system as it stands, we would not dispatch it if we thought there were any problems.

    Cheers

They are a default option on 3XS systems, I belive they are a great addition to any system

If an end user didnt want one it can be removed.
