dp you mean the controller it is on rather than the HD itself? Also at what point of the install is it asking for these drivers? Could just be you need the NForce 4 AMD Vista 32Bit drivers

All vista drivers for nVidia boards can be downloaded from www.nvidia.com
Not too sure really...... when I get to the install screen where you choose the HDD to install Vista on, it says 'no device could be found, please install correct driver'. HDD is connected correctly because when I remove vista disc and reboot, XP loads up fine....
Thanks, will give it a go
Im an intel person but essentialy u need to dl the drivers from the link I gave u above in ur XP install, run it to extract the files and then copy to a USB pendrive. The in Vista, click Add device or whatever it says, browse to the pendrive and hopefully it will load the NF4 drivers and see ur new drive (might need to click refresh after driver install) I am not 100% on AMD installs, someone else here might know better
No, no luck..... still says there are no devices..... tried loading all drivers from that NVidia setup but none have any effect. Checked the HDD again and its fine. ?
Are you running a RAID array or just a single drive. If you are running a single drive then you shouldn't need the drivers if you are in IDE mode.
Yeah just a single drive.... I thought the drive should just show up like it does on an XP install but its not there.... its the latest Model from WD so not obselete.... very odd
Is it not the IDE bus driver I need?
If you are running the hard drive in IDE compatilbilty mode in the bios you will not need to load any drivers.
did u check in the bios to ensure u have ur SATA set to IDE mode.
Its weird because Vista natively picks up my HD's on the ICH8R in AHCI mode which is much newer than NF4, I would expect NF4 support without additional drivers
Where can I find this setting in the BIOS? Can't seem to see it.... could it be called something else?
Thanks for the help but I've got it working now..... installs fine from the desktop, just not when you boot from the CD....? I love MS
