    Is this board worth getting?

Simple question but as im about to build a new system i do fancy this board
but im reading mixed reactions and nothing i have read have said yes its a good buy or no its not.

I do read that its rought with problems and not a very good overclocker can anyone clarify this or share there thoughts and experience

Its all about what you build with it, garbage in, garbage out. Mine has been rock solid and I have a 1ghz OC with a e6600. Using a dual raid0 array and the whole nine yards.....I love the board!!

E6600 is my choice too watercooled but sum say the bios still needs some work to get it right.

    Have it improved much?

Official release 1.1 is what I use and I have great results with it. A lot of people are using the 12_B03 bios as well and have real good results with it too.

Not with the quadcore, there are some serious probs with the bios 12_b03, there is a newer one out now which i will evaluate this weekend.

Hmmm just a few things to ask:

What all are you planning to put in it - a shopping list would be nice
Are you planning on RAID - the Nvidia 680i RAID has been a bit hit and miss
Watercooling ? - You're gonna have to give consideration to the motherboard cooling especially the NB and PWM

Once you've got the bits and bobs I'm sure we can sort out your overclocking too

Johnny mate, i would consider southbridge (if possible ) cooling also as you know how that gets hot as well, as hot as the northbridge.

Remember SOUTHBRIDGE HSF mounting hole design is in DIRECT LINE with the first PCIEX16 slot please bare that in mind when changing HSF/Water block

    E6600 chip
If i can get the Mushkin PC2-6400 4GB Memory here in the uk i will, if not the Cellshock 800mhz kit or the ballistix tracers
    BFG GTX (sli later on)
Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultra+ Watercooling Kit with extra chipset block
Corsair HX 620W or the Enermax Infiniti 720W
    Samsung SM-226BW 22" Lcd
    2 x Samsung SpinPoint 500 Gig Hd's
    Silverstone TJ09B-W case
Not planning on using raid at the moment at least anyway dont really see the benefit for gaming

    Cheers Matlamont,

OK I'm tried the cellshocks on this board myself, they have EPP built in which can be used by the board to give you a little boost. Solid sticks that have also gone down in price recently. The Mushkin are still 2 sticks as well so shouldn't be to tasking.

I see you're water cooling - The Nvidia 680i runs pretty hot and I see you have an extra block in there to cover the SPP and MCP good stuff. Here's the thing, because the IN9-MAX uses the digital PWM your gonna have to get it actively cooled somehow. You can either cut up the existing block or you can get a hold of some water cooled blocks for it. Try the one below - looks good

    http://www.candccentral.co.uk/acatal...ng_Blocks.html

With that plumbed in you'll be sorted for cooling AND overclocking!

Finally in regards to the RAID that's cool there's a bit of a problem with the RAID on the 680i MCP which still needs to be addressed.

    John

Actually I took a nosy at that cooling kit - you'll probably have to run it full tilt if your gonna strap an 8800GTX especially SLi later on. Just something to bare in mind.

Thanks for the info and the link johnny!

I dont think (well at least i hope) there will be any problems regarding the Swiftech system its quite a powerfull pump which can shift allot of water and can be controlled by the chipset which is cool.

My heart is set on getting this board now just waiting for scan to stock all the other bits then i can get building

If you are definitely and I mean definitely going to go SLi then you'll have to go for the Corsair, the Infiniti has 3 PCI-E connecors, one of which converts to the new 8 pin. Mind you I suppose you could use up some of the Molex plugs on an adapter.

The Inifinti is a solid piece of kit though. Used mine for a couple of months and no hiccups.

Im gonna go with the corsair psw iv heard great things about it.

One more question about the sound system on the board. How does it perform? il be running a 5.1 speaker system and buying a sound card would really over stretch my budget.

At first I would say no.... but maybe wait and it might.

    I have just purchased:

    Abit IN9 32-MAX
    Freezer Pro 7
    Intel QX6800
    2 x Corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5D

All fitted into my P180 with a TruePower 650 Watt PSU
and two XFX 7800 GTX cards.

Can I get the B1@@dy to work, not a chance.

The system it stops at "C1" during the POST; I have tried different memory,
CM2X512-540C4PR0 and swapped PSU Tagen 560 Watt for Antec TruePower 650.

Tomorrow I will run memtest on my four 8500 DIMMs on my system at work to check them out. I have asked scan about the error so I will let you know if the board is faulty or if it just does not like the QX6800 and Corsair DIMM's...

    Cheers

Have you tried inserting just 1 DIMM & seeing if it will post?
If so check the RAM voltage as it may well be setting the JEDEC 1.8V & the RAM probably needs more.

Yellowbeard says that the IN9 32X runs really well with 8500 Dominators (not sure if the 2Gb DIMMs though).
