FP-IN9 SLI - Lock-up during shutting down

My computer was working fine earlier today, but now when I attempt to shut down the computer, it gets to the part "Shutting System Down" and then locks up. I can manually shut up by pressing the power button, but is there a way to fix this problem?

Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 (1.86GHz @ 1066 FSB, 4MB L2 Cache)
BFG Tech GeForce 7900 GT OC 256MB GDDR3
DUAL OCZ 2GB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz
OCZ GameXStream PSU 700w

sounds like a Windows problem rather than hardware imo.

yeah are you running vista i get that occasionally

also get similar on startup vista loads and all my startup programs fail to start and i get warnings and have to manually start them (steam avg av windows live messenger etc )

I'm actually just running Windows XP SP2 right now. Since it's not Vista, could it be another problem?
