Abit F-I90HD - sometimes it will not power up

    hi!

I got Abit F-I90HD for my new HTPC (nice mobo with HDMI) and the problem is that sometimes when I press the power button it will not power up. In order to power up I have got to switch off the psu for a few seconds and the switch it on again. After the above procedure it works fine.
The rest pc components are the above:
    FSP PSU Bluestorm 2 350W
    OCZ 667Mhz Gold 2x512Mb
Core 2 Duo 4400 (stock speed)
    skystar 2
    Seagate 500gb sata hdd.
    Nothing else.

What do you think the problem might be?

    thanks
    nfountou

PS: I have got the latest bios update

This is a high quality forton psu with 350 true watts and over 82% effieciency. It is more than enough for this system. The system doesnt even start (as I said this happened just a few times). I press the start up button and nothing happens. The psu was working fine in a previous setup and it is less than 4 months old.

& yet what you are describing is typical of a marginal PSU.
It's not just about wattage but also amperage plus PSUs like all other components can fail.

Re: Abit F-I90HD - sometimes it will not power up

I have tried a different psu but still the same. This is what actually happens:
When I switch off the psu and ****ch it back on after that in most of the times the computer wont resond at all. I have to switch the psu switch off and on again in order to power up. I found an option in the bios that states what the computer would do after power failure. It has three options: power off, like it was before, and power on (I cannot remeber the excact words but you got the main point). It was in the power off mode. When I change it to power on, Whenever I power switch off the psu and back on, the system always start up automatically without pressing the power up button. I believe that this issue might has something to do with this bios option.

That BIOS option is so the computer knows what to do in the event of power being restored after being interrupted (e.g. a power cut). It's pretty much standard for it to be set to stay off by default.

Re: Abit F-I90HD - sometimes it will not power up

I have checked a third psu and it does the same thing. Not a psu fault. This board looks like its ready to follow the highway for RMA. Any Abit's support? Isnt this suppose to be an Abit official support forum?

I have been reading all the post regarding your problem, but theres really nothing further I can add to help.

I think you should contact your vendor and have the motherboard replaced.

Re: Abit F-I90HD - sometimes it will not power up

I made a phonecall to the computer shop from where I bought the mobo. The computer tech said that this is a common issue in motherboards and that I ll have it replaced in 1 working day. Abit is defenetly one of the leading motherboad manufacturers but in such cases its really annoying spending lot of your time for a faulty product.
