    Question IP35-Pro Problem Help

I have built my new computer with the following specs.

    Q6600
    Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
    Abit IP35-Pro
    2GB OCZ Ati
    Samsung Spinpoint 500gb
    Samsung DVD Drive
    Evga 8800GTS 640mb
    Corsair HX620w

However every time I turn it on, it hangs on post error 52 "Test all memory (clear all extended memory to 0)"

Now I have tried clearing the CMOS, I have set it all up outside and still keep getting this problem.
I set it up with just one stick of ram and my gpu. My gpu fan spins, has power connected and displays the abit screen with tab and del. So Im thinking this is ok, I have also tried reseating it a couple of times.

Therefore I can only think its my ram?! Its rated at 1.9-2.1 but other people seem to have had no problem with it posting and then changing the voltage in the bios. I would do the same but I cant get into the bios, probably due to this error 52, so my PS/2 keyboard is dead. I know the keyboard works as Im using it now and the num lock etc light up when I turn the computer on.

Im getting stuck for ideas now, can someone help me out.

    Re: IP35-Pro Problem Help

have you tried all of the dimm sockets?

And yes, your board should post even if the RAM is rated at 2.1V, as it will go for DDR2-800 at 1.8Volts.

I have heard rumours about IP35-pro compatibility with OCZ RAM, although I have both and have had no problems. See post #13 of this thread:

    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=113349

I haven't heard anything further though, and that was a while ago :-/

    Re: IP35-Pro Problem Help

Yes I have tried it in all the differnet dimm sockets. Cleared cmos, tried just the bare essentials, tried loading it with everything connected. Its out of the case trying to get this working.

Im not sure what else to do?! Should I buy some differnet ram and see if that works?

Find a friend with a DDR2 machine and see if the RAM works for him?

    Otherwise, RMA the RAM?

    Re: IP35-Pro Problem Help

Not got anyone I ask to test it really. Most friends have laptops, or oldish computers.

If I RMA the ram though, I will have to pay to ship it to the netherlands I think OCZ has to go to? Then if its found ok, I will be back to square one.

What do people think it is? Memory or could it be my motherboard?

    Re: IP35-Pro Problem Help

If you can package the RAM up "as new", so it doesn't look like it's been used (which lets face it, it hasn't), then you can return it no questions asked within 10 days of receipt in line with the Distance Selling Regulations.

Edit: assuming you bought it online...

    Re: IP35-Pro Problem Help

So do people definately think its the ram then?

What you said Fraz is a good idea, I have had it longer than that but a similar idea would work, basically me swapping it for a new one and sending the old one back.

Are there any other reasons that it could be?

    Re: IP35-Pro Problem Help

Yes, you can do it with USB, however you need to be able to get into the BIOS in the first place so you can tell it to boot from the USB stick (although maybe you can just unplug anything else it could possibly boot from...?) Can you do that? You said above you couldn't get into the BIOS.

    Re: IP35-Pro Problem Help

    You'll need this:

HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool:
    http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197

And the DOS system files to put on your USB key as well as the BIOS itself, which I've zipped up and hosted for you:

    http://cern.ch/frazier/DOS_startup_d...stem_files.zip
    http://cern.ch/frazier/ip35pro_bios_v1.1_m629b11.zip

Use the USB tool to put the system files on the key, and just copy the BIOS files on yourself. Get your computer to boot from the USB key somehow (change boot priority in existing BIOS, etc), and once it's booted from the key, you just need to type:

    RUNME.BAT

    Hope you get it working.

    Re: IP35-Pro Problem Help

Thats the only problem Fraz I cant get into the bios so dont think I can update the bios. I tried using the usb but nothing happenned.

As for the ram you have that works, maybe you just chose them by chance but they also appear on the Memoery modules test so are approved.
    http://www.abit.com.tw/test-report/ip35-pro.htm?2

I might just buy some different ram and see if that works, if it does sell my OCZ.
    Any recommendations?

    Re: IP35-Pro Problem Help

I guess anything on that approved list would do, although I'd recommend checking to see if your choice contains Micron D9 memory chips, as these are supposed to be the best.

    There was a thread here:

    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.p...cial+ballistix

for low price crucial ballistix, although I can't see it anywhere on that approval list... It's a good £30 less than I paid for the equivalent stuff from OCZ. I'm prob going to get some, as everyone on this forum seem to rate Crucial Ballistix, and I want to move up to 4GB of RAM
