    Post IP35-PRO CMOS checksum error

    Hi,

I got my new Abit board last Friday and finally got my PC built on Sunday evening. However I have a problem.

When the PC was firt put together on initial boot the I got an error message after POST that said:-

    "CMOS checksum error loading defaults"

I then have to press Delete for the BIOS or F1 to continue. Since I wanted to make sure my SATA controller was not in IDE mode I went into the BIOS and had a look around and made my changes for the SATA controller and USB mouse Keyboard etc. No major changes as I just wanted to Vista running asap.

I hit F10 and the PC reboots.... No error message. Cool I think, must be a shipping/first boot thing.

I install Vista and all seems well until I try to install Uguru, off the CD. It installs but refuses to run at all and just keeps crashing. I have installed office 2007 and some games with no issues.

Yesterday, I decided that I would see what my Q6600 is capable of and enter the BIOS to change the FSB modestly. I up it to 270 and press F10. PC reboots and I am load Vista fine, however CPU-Z still says 266FSB as does SANDRA. I reboot and enter the BIOS, Uguru now says that the current FSB is "MHz", i can change the value and it seems to save when I press F10 but nothing actually happens.

Can anyone offer and help? Is this a hardware/BIOS issue? Please can anyone suggest a fix. I have checked the BIOS it the latest release and I have already tried to re-flash it.

    Thanks for your time.

First off, have you set the RAM voltage to that recommended by the RAM manufacturer?
    Secondly, which version of uGuru?

Uguru is the version off the CD 3.0.0.5 (I think it's newer than the version on the Abit site)

    Version of Uguru is3.1.0.5

I have just installed XP and still no joy. Is this likely to be linked to the lack of ability to change the FSB in the BIOS.

Have I got a dud board??

    Re: IP35-PRO CMOS checksum error

I take it from your earlier comments that you are on BIOS14?
    You could try the 16beta?

abits tend to run a ~2% stock overclock so I'm surprised that CPU-Z & Sandra are showing 266 at defaults rather than 272 ...

I've got a copy of uGuru 3.106 here but it's possible that the only change was support for the IX38 QuadGT.

    Thanks for your reply.

I am also puzzled.... I think I am going to have to speak to the reseller tomorrow. I will try flashing back to 13 then forward again and see if that helps.

    Re: IP35-PRO CMOS checksum error

if you have a rev1.1. mobo I wouldn't go to an earlier BIOS than 14 as it appears to have a different PLL chip than the rev 1.0 & for all that I know that may make a difference re. BIOS support.
16 beta is probably worth a try.

    Also, which version of CPU-Z?
