    AW9D-MAX and Wolfdale: Compatible??

    Hi there,
I have been reading reports that the AW9D-Max supports the new E8400.

Can anyone confirm this please as i love the board and really dont want to change it unless its absolutely necessary.

    Cheers

MESH now have their own forums so pulled out of Hexus.care.

Blitzen, I've seen reports that Yorkfield also runs on the AW9D - we'll just have to wait until they are all officially launched & we see if abit release BIOS with official support.

    Re: AW9D-MAX and Wolfdale: Compatible??

Theres a thread over on the Abit USA forum if you havent already seen it.
Chap has an 8400 that he is trying out on his MAX board.
    AW9-Max or IP35-E for a e8400 - Universal abit USA Forums

And also bios 1.6 seems to offer support for the E8000 series

    Dear Sir/Madam,
    Thanks for your supporting.

We have tested that we can't overclock the CPU external clock of the Quad processor over than 300MHz on AW9D-MAX, and it is the limitation of hardware.

The new BIOS 16 will support Intel Core2 Duo E8000 series processor only in the future, but not Q9000 series.

    Have a nice day.
From this threadAll Things Aw9d-max 1.6 bios beta - Universal abit USA Forums

Bout as clear as its going to get I think till 1.6 is officially released.

    Thats sounds good...cheers
Im not that interested in the Quads until i go for an X48 at least.

The Wolfdales however seem a good upgrade at a very good price.

    Roll on BIOS 16

Or go for the whole hog at the end of the year and go Nehalem?

I'm sticking to the QuadGT and Q6600 till then.

    Re: AW9D-MAX and Wolfdale: Compatible??

The 1.6 bios is on the FTP

    ftp : / /ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/download/bios/aw9d (copy&paste, remove the spaces)

The file is not named correctly it's the "m606c16.zip", it should be aw9d16.zip, but it is the correct file. i'm running it now and my system is completely stable. i got a very small increase in my 3dmark 05 score, nothing to write home about (was running 1.5 previously).

memtest issue seem sorted, it detects my cd rom after a restart now. firewire disables for me now also, and pcie pay load size is also fixed. i'm still testing but all seems fine at the moment, only at stock speeds btw.

    change log

    1. Fixed the option in uGuru Utility can't be adjusted when Virtualization Technology is Disable.
    2. Fixed CPU Multiplier can't adjust when EIST function is Disable.
    3. Enhanced the compatibility with NVIDIA GeForce7950GX2.
    4. Support Core2 Duo E8200 and E8400.
    5. BIOS compiled date: 01/15/2008.

Possibly ...im not really sure though.
This whole BIOS thing is the biggest area of my rig that still confuses me.

If i were you i would get an el cheapo Celeron and use that to flash. Probably get one for under a tenner.

M606C16 is also correct for the AW9D - it's some new BIOS naming scheme that abit started a while ago on new mobo models & have been extending even to older mobos.
The older naming scheme was easier imo but there must be some method to the madness ...

Im just so chuffed i can carry on using my AW9D-Max.

I love the board and if i had to upgrade to an IP35 i wouldve gained little or nothing.

I would be very surprised if you couldnt. It wont recognise the cpu but will enable you to boot to dos so you can flash.
The IP35 range will accept the Wolfdale from quite an early bios, the Max would need flashing though.
