    IP35 Pro eSata issue

    Hi All!

First off, let me apologize if this has been asked before. I used the Search tool and reviewed the FAQ but I couldn't find anything that looked like the problem I'm having.

    My specs
    Board: IP35 Pro
    CPU: E6850 @ stock speed
    RAM: 4x G.Skill F2-6400CL5-1GBNQ
    HDDs: Seagate 300Gb SATA-II C: drive; Seagate 320Gb SATA-II D: drive
    Sound: Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer PCI
Video: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX (non-OC)
    DVD-/+RW: Samsung SH-S203B SATA
    OS: Vista x64 SP1
    Latest drivers for everything.

OK, so the problem I'm having is that I can't seem to get either eSata port on the motherboard to recognize my external Western Digital MyBook Home 500Gb drive. I've got the Jmicron drivers installed and have tried both IDE and ACHI mode in the BIOS. This external drive works fine when connected to Firewire and USB, but not with eSata. I've also tried with Windows XP Pro SP2 and same thing. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Unusual to see nothing happen when you connect an eSATA drive. Occasionally it works but normally it p*ss*s about.

If you plug the external drive in when the system is powered-down, is it recognised by the JMicron BIOS (and listed as HDD0 on the JMB363 startup screen that is displayed during the POST sequence?

If not, this would suggest a connectivity issue, and I'd thus be suggesting trying alternative eSATA cables, as well as trying your drive and cable on another board.

Nope, JMicron doesn't recognize the drive on the startup screen. I'll just go buy another eSata cable. It's quite possible this one is bad. I don't have another board with eSata, so if the new cable doesn't work I'll just stick with Firewire.

    Thanks for the help!

I think that you'll find that it's the cable for the WD needing a bit of trimming back.
