    ip35 crashes

ive had a ip35 board for about a month now and its been nothing but problems and ive built a few pc`s in my time and this is the worst, after getting over the memory issue and installing cheap dell ram it booted, i installed xp pro no probs, run memtest no probs, and other proggys for testing it, but when u put a load on it the thing crashes and reboots.

    i have a ip35 board rev 17
    2 gb ocz ram 4-4-4-12
    quadcore cpu
    ninja heatsink
    8800gt gpu
    raptor 74gb
    700wfsp psu

i ran prime 95 tonight and it came up with hardware failure and aborted, my gut tells me this is a memory issue, these ocz have been the source of the 1st problems and i reckon its that what is causing the issues, all i can think to do now is bung in back the cheap dell ram and reset the bios and run prime again and see if it makes the difference, ive even had someone from another abit forum tell me the exact settings for the ram on this board and its running the ram at 2.1 voltage.

can anyone offer any other ideas on what to do here? ive done most of the obvious with cmos etc, reseating the cpu and the temps are about 39o ive an xclio case which has 2 180mm fans and i put another sflex 120mm fan at the back to keep it cool so i dont think its a heat issue, but im loosing patience and thinking of stripping it down and selling bits on.

    Re: ip35 crashes

    which exact OCZ?
The 6400 Gold is known not to be a good match but the Platinum (particularly Rev. 2) usually works fine in 2x1 GB form (less good as 4x1Gb).

ive reset the cmos. put in some ram from old dell pc and its working fine, yet memtest etc cant find any probs with the ram, i might give abit a bell and ask them for any ideas about the settings.

    Re: ip35 crashes

yep the IP35 can be a bitch of a board especially with memory issues, what bios are running ? For me 12 works best with my Crucial Ballistix but that doesn't stop it having a hard random crash at least once a month. This is even thought OCCT, Prime95 and memtest telling me that it's completely stable at its current settings. When itt does crash I have to reset the cmos, stick in stick of crap ram and then re-enter previous bios settings, save and then put in Ballistix again.

    Re: ip35 crashes

Maybe a good idea would be to not buy RAM that's known to be iffy with the board?
If your RAM isn't providing stability, get rid of it and use some Corsair stuff?

Who me or Grissom? If you mean me then I have Corsair, Team Xtreme and Patriot ram as well and it's the same with all of them and I know that the ram is good, it's the board that's flakey.

    Re: ip35 crashes

The information was meant for anyone
I have used Geil and Corsair 800MHz RAM in 3 IP35s on various BIOS versions with no issues at all
From most of the FUD I've read around the web, the memory issues with this board have been due to OCZ or attempts to run memory at incorrect voltage settings

Ah ok I see, you're right about the voltage; the board will not post in dual channel mode with any make of ram unless it's set to 2.1v or above.

I just have really bad luck with this board and have gone off it, used it 3 customer builds and 2 were DOA and mine is flakey at overclocked settings.

no problem on my (admittedly Pro) IP35 mobo - Crucial Ballistix 8500, G.Skill 8000, Corsair 6400C4 & OCZ Platinum 6400 Rev. 2. all will boot in dual channel at default.
Over all I would say that the IP35 series isn't known for being picky with RAM, certainly no more so than other P35s.

    Re: ip35 crashes

i was recommended to the ocz from 3 people who had the same setup, ud think that way it was ok little did i know.
its bios 17 but that didnt sort it out, at the moment its done a whole day on orthos without problem so looks like the ram needs tweaking, ill try and contact ocz or abit this week to see what they say.
so which would u recommend with the ip35? cause i read corsair giving issues as well.

I've had to boost voltage on my ip35 with 4x1Gb Corsair XMS2 to give the board more chances to boot, as I have some stupid issue where it doesn't post sometimes. I'm returning it on Wednesday and buying an IP35 Pro instead. People don't seem to have problems with the pro.

Yeah that's what i'm begining to realise to. The days of being able to overclock on cheap-ass motherboard are numbered for me. Time to get the wallet and get a new motherbard.

Does anyone know how stable is the DFI LanParty LTX48-T2R is. Not been paying attention recently.

The v2 Platinum RAM doesnt have any issues. The v1 did.

From most of the FUD I've read around the web, the memory issues with this board have been due to OCZ or attempts to run memory at incorrect voltage settings
The timings for OCZ Platinum Rev 2 are 4-4-4-15 not 4-4-412 arent they? They are on mine anyway.

Im running Vista 64Bit Ultimate at the moment in Dula Channel on an ABUIT board and the 4x1gb Platinum PC6400 @ just over 800mhz runs flawlessly.
