Now updated BIOS, same problem. Only thing could be PSU or CPU (doubt its this as it runs fine when it does boot eve under heavy load)
Don't have a spare PSU lying around which means I'll have to buy one just to test

Well if you haven't tried upping you cpu voltage past 1.3275V yet I would try that before investing in a new psu. You may have a crap clocking cpu, which wouldn't surprise me as it's a E6400, so try setting the cpu voltage to 1.4v and see what happens. I'd also bump up the cpu VTT voltage as well.

    Re: IP35 sometimes won't post

    Upped the CPU V's.
Ran CPU at stock to avoid any issues with clocking it too high.
    Tried another PSU.
    Unplugged my DVD drive.
Removed all USB devices on boot.

No change, I'm leaning towards faulty RAM but it memtested ok & when it does boots it runs fine in windows/games so surely i'd be likely to get crashes with dodgy RAM?

Only things not changed/tried are CPU & RAM as I can't! Thought about possibility of the mobo contacting the case but then it would either work or not so it can't be that either.

CPU temps are ok so its not that, contact with the HSF is good & I only reapplied MX5 a few weeks ago (was doing the same with my old board before so its not a one off)

I have noticed that now I no longer need to reset the CMOS all the time, if i do so many reboots it defaults to stock clocks (all other BIOS changes stay fixed, this is a BIOS feature no?) I can usually then boot in XP, reboot, change clocks & it will then reboot fine until I power off.....AAAAAAAAGGHHH!

EDIT: I've just thought, my PSU (Hyper 480W) is connected using the main power+the litle 4 extra pins to my mobo, also the 8 pin port on my mobo has a 4pin cable plugged into it (the PSU simply doesn't have an 8 pin cable) Things have always worked fine before like this so it's be strange if they changed but could that be a problem? Would a PCIE 6 pin cable plug into the 8 pin on the mobo or are the fittings different & would that fry anything?

Porblem seems to have fixed itself, only thing I can possibly think of is that I manually set the RAM timings (but they are at the same speeds as they defaulted to on 'auto' ) hey-ho!

    Re: IP35 sometimes won't post

I used to have this issue on my IP35 board when running an E6700 with 2x1Gb Corsair XMS2 sticks. Now I upgraded to an E8200 and 2x1Gb OCZ sticks, I never have this problem. One thing I remember is that the board couldn't set the ram timings correctly for the Corsair, but works fine with the OCZ.
