    First Boot Problem-Help

This is my first built, so be patience with me--I'm still learning the computer lingo. As you can see by my system I bought a rather older inexpensive barebone system to practice. If everything goes ok computer will only be used for internet browsing.
Here is my problem: So far I've only connected motherboard, cpu, cooler, psu and video card. I have checked all connections, made sure monitor is working. When I turn-on the power the fans will run for about one second and then shutdown. I get a beep from built-in speaker. Is a low pitch followed by a high pitch. Very similar to european emergency siren. I have followed advise on a couple of compuyter books by checking all connections, pulling out and reinserting cards and ram. Still getting the same beep. Can anyone shed some light?

Only rail connector if that's what you mean by the insertion rail.

You need to provide complete system specs so we know what your trying to put together. The alarm your hearing could be several things including inadequate power, CPU overheating, CPU fan speed not detected (Plugged in to wrong header?).

    Re: First Boot Problem-Help

Sorry about that. When I register it asked me for all the specs to be shown under my name. Don't know what that meant. Anyhow:

    Antec Plus 660AMG
    Antec True330 PSU
    AMD Athlon XP2500 333FSB CPU
    Abit NF7-S mobo
    Crucial 256MB PC2700 DDR333
    Masscool CPU cooler
    Predator MX4000 Plus video card

These are all the hardware I'm working at the moment. I don't have any hard or optical drive in the case at the moment.

    Re: First Boot Problem-Help

Double check your CPU cooler installation, there is a notch on the cooler that must correspond with the socket area.

Checked that. The notch is there and set properly. I've also cleared CMOS a couple of times a I was resetting video cards/ram.

Next check that the CPU fan is plugged in to the correct header on the motherboard, one of the headers is marked CPUFAN. Also make sure both the 20 pin main and the 4-pin aux power leads are connected to the board.

    Re: First Boot Problem-Help

Got it!!!!!! Pulled mobo re-check and reset everything again, cleared cmos except this time took battery off and cleared CMOS, waited about 30 minutes and reset battery and cmos pin. Voila!!!
Thanks for the help, but I'm not out of the woods yet. I want to keep adding one hardware item at a time. Any suggestions.

Just get windows loaded and then add the rest of the stuff one at a time and load the drivers for them.

    Re: First Boot Problem-Help

One more question: On the NF7 mobo jumper settings there are two pins that are not being used. One is SLED or Suspend LED and the other is K/L or Keylock Cable. Can anyone provide more details on these two? I don't have a jumper cable coming out of the case with this designation.

    Re: First Boot Problem-Help

The led lights up while the pc is in suspend mode, i.e. hibernate or similar. Not needed.

The other I am not sure which jumper you are reffering too. I cant see it on the mobo layout in the manual.

    Re: First Boot Problem-Help

Is not in the manual for NF7-S that I have either but on the mobo and the jumper setting sticker that supposed to be post to the chassis.
