I have it connected to sata port number 1
Maybe its asking for drivers for the silicon image controller if you dont have it disabled in bios..... Other than that I have no clue, I've built and sold dozens of systems with that board and never had a problem with the BIOS set correctly.

Integrated Periphials/Onboard PCI Device/Serial1 ATA controller & Serial2 ATA controller, disable both.

No problem. At any time if you decide to use that controller that you turned off in BIOS just re-enable it in BIOS and load the drivers for it within windows. I believe that controller is a Silicon Image controller and the drivers for it can be had on their web site...... enjoy!!
