    Re: AW9D-Max Vista Installation

With XP you might need SATA drivers if you have it set to ACHI (instead of IDE) but with Vista it should already have the drivers.

I'd check the connectors are securely connected or swap cables.

the drive is sata, and all the connections are tight and secure, I have taken them out and reseated them to make sure and I even tried a different hdd with no luck, the motherboard does detect the hdd but windows vista installation doesnt show it in the drivers list when it comes to selection

hope that helps, and hope you can help me

Drivers list? You mean drives yes? Have you tried a different SATA connector? You should be using the block of 4 next to the southbridge.

    Vista doesn't need ACHI/RAID drivers for ICH9R.

    Re: AW9D-Max Vista Installation

Thats not entirely true, I have built a few systems that have indeed needed to have the drivers fed to setup. Better to do it that way anyway as you will have the latest drivers from the start.

    Re: AW9D-Max Vista Installation

Your confused my good man. There is no SATA option, its either ACHI, Raid, or IDE..... set the controller to IDE and then Windows will see the drive no problems without any drivers. All that setting the intel controller to IDE does is "Emulate" that your SATA hard drive is IDE for the sake of an easy install. It by no means affects the performance of your SATA hard drive. If you have the manual see page 3-21 its all explained there.

    Re: AW9D-Max Vista Installation

There is one setting that has a SATA option but you want that one set to "Enhanced". Look at that page in your manual, its very helpful and will show you what I'm talking about.

    Re: AW9D-Max Vista Installation

I can see what you are talking about, I have tried everything and it still doesnt detect my hdd it keeps asking about device drivers? It worked when I had my old motherboard in but for some reason it wont detect it in the vista installation with this motherboard

If its asking for drivers then you dont have enhanced mode and IDE selected......
