    Abit IB9 + E7200 Bus/Multiplier question..

Hi guys.. Just found the forum, my first post and a question I wonder if anyone can help with.

I have an Abit IB9 motherboard which i've just flashed to Bios15 to enable support for E7300 & E7200 CPU's. I'm using an E7200 cpu on this board which is running ok. However, the multiplier seems to be locked at 9x maximum and this CPU needs 9.5x at 266 to get to it's 2.53ghz

currently running at 9x 281 to get it running as near as..

anyone help or advise? will this be ok?

not officially supported & I wouldn't expect any further BIOS for that board.

thanks for the reply but that information is dated June 2008. On 29th July 2008 Abit released a Bios revision 15 to include support for the E7200 and E7300 cpu's. However, it does not appear to work 100% correctly.
    abitDOTcomDOTtw/page/uk/download/download_bios_detail.php?pFILE_TYPE=Bios&pMAIN_TYPE=Motherboard&pTITLE_ON_SCREEN=IB9&pSOCKET_TYPE=LG A775

The motherboard failed to boot on Rev14 bios with the E7200 in. Bios flashed to rev15 and the cpu works and is detected as an E7200 @ 2.53ghz but the multiplier is locked at 9x with 266fsb. This cpu needs a 9.5x multiplier at 266fsb. Maybe this is a limitation with this motherboard. I have emailed Abit europe tech support but have not had a reply so far.

    Re: Abit IB9 + E7200 Bus/Multiplier question..

well I got a reply from Abit tech support. as follows:

    Dear Sir,

This is due to limitation of the motherboards chipset wich does not support half multiplier with E7200 cpu therefor it takes the multiplier x9 and the fsb needs to be raised in order to get the right speed for the cpu.

So running it at 281 fsb would be the right choice to do in this case. It will run at 2529 Mhz than instead of 2530Mhz .

so let get this right. they're telling me that the I965 chipset doesnt support x.5 multipliers with the E7200? (other manufacturers dont have a problem) or that this particular board just doesnt go upto 9.5x? I suspect the latter.

so it's 281x9 for this cpu I guess... Although o/c at 333x9 seems stable.

    Re: Abit IB9 + E7200 Bus/Multiplier question..

this board doesnt appear to support 9.5x or 10x multipliers.. The E7200 and E7300 cpu's work but you have to use 9x multiplier and oclock the FSB to get them to their stock speeds.

no word on this on the bios #15 release page, it just says "Update CPU Micro code to support Intel E7200 and E7300 CPU" which really should also read. *** Addendum. But I really wouldnt bother as you cant set the stock 9.5x or 10x multiplier on this board so dont waste your time. ***

    Humm,

I dont care if dont run 9.5x ou 10X multi anyway, eheheheh, i will make a hell of an over on this E7200, put it on 3.6 for daily use, so no problem to me.

Hope it works stable, thats important, when i get the CPU i return with more info.
