    new cpu install problems

just bought a q9550 off ebay (shouldnt off tbh....) and just installed it onto my board, latest bios so no compatibility problems, and booted up and getting the C1 error code and a long beep

    C1 means:
    detect memory
    - auto detection of DRAM size, type & ECC
    - auto detection of L2 Cache (socket 7 or below)

not very helpful... socket 7 is very old, so surely it cant be the l2 cache problem... it must be my RAM? very very weird

or perhaps ive somehow damaged the motherboard somehow...

    need some troubleshooting ideas

i updated the to the latest bios yesterday, booted fine with my e6550 and seems that every body who has a abit has the same code.... C1!

    Re: new cpu install problems

Is the speed of your existing memory sticks fast enough for the new cpu?

    Re: new cpu install problems

right moral of the story is... check your cabling!! i admit i was rushing due to work, i forgot to plug the graphics power in...

so in essence the bios code is a load of old rubbish and a lie!!
