IDE DVD Drive Not Working At Bootup

I'm trying to get my IDE DVD Burner to work right after POST. Whenever I have a disk that is bootable in the drive and try to boot from it I get an error (Error booting from CD/DVD drive. Press any key to reboot).

I have tried another IDE optical drive and it does work, so that rules out the cable and the port itself.

From what I read, the IP35-E lacks IDE emulation and instead only usings AHCI. For some reason the drive that doesn't work doesn't like this, but the other one does. The one that doesn't work is just detected as a Lite-On DVD-RW S drive, while the other is given a full model number.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get this drive working on this particular motherboard during boot-up? I can't reinstall Windows or anything of that sort with that drive.

    Specs
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 stock
    Abit IP35-E (Bios version 15)
    2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800
    500w Seasonic PSU
    eVGA 9600GSO
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

If you need any more information, please let me know.

sorry , I can't help with your problem but afaik your statement is wrong.
    a) the IP35 series have an addon IDE controller in the JMicron & afaik there is no such thing as AHCI for IDE
    b) as far as Intel are concerned ICH9 doesn't officially support AHCI anyway

I got all the information in my original post from Google.

A few people said that the board lacks IDE emulation.

I found it odd that one drive worked, when the other did not.

    Okay, I fixed the problem.

It turns out for some odd reason the computer didn't want to use the DVD drive that was in the computer. I switched out the burner with another known working burner in a different computer (also IDE). I tried booting from it and it worked.

Then I put the burner that was suspect in to the computer from where I got the other one, it worked too, booted disks just fine. No errors, nothing at all.

So in other words, both drives work just fine. I'm not sure what happened and why the burner decided it didn't want to work properly with the burner, but the problem is fixed.

they were wrong (& off track seeing as IDE emulation relates to a SATA controller & your drive is IDE).

glad that you are sorted though.
