DVD drive stops PC from booting?

Hi,

I have a problem with a recently self-built PC. When turning the machine on, sometimes the DVD drive doesn't light up and when this happens the PC itself doesn't boot up and the monitor reports that there is no signal coming from it.

The system eventually boots up after turning the machine off and on many times; only when the DVD drive lights up, though.

The DVD drive itself appears to be working fine, as I have installed software and played games and DVDs through it. The drive is IDE and is connected up properly.

I can't think of a reason why this may happen. Any suggestions?

Have you tried a different IDE cable just in case the old one is faulty?

Have you installed the latest motherboard drivers?

i had the same problem when i built my pc. turns out u need if your hard drive and dvd drive are on the same cable, to have the hd set as the master on the end plug of the cable with dvd set as slave on the middle plug, then when u turn on the pc imidietly go to the bios probs by pressing f1 on your keybord, go to the boot up settings and have the dvd drive set as the first boot then the hard drive as the second, if that doesnt work get a new ide cable and try that if that doesnt work either, your bios is crap, your motherbord is dodgey or probibly your dvd drive has had it.
