    Abit IP35 Not Overclocking

    Had my IP35 and E6400 overclocked to 3.7Ghz using 463 fsb for about a year up till recently. E6400, Abit IP35, PNY 8800 512, 4Gb DDR2-800.

My IP35 boots and reports the processor as 3700mhz in POST screen, however almost every OS application I check it with like cpuz/intel processor ID app they all report it is running at the stock 2.3Ghz?

It isn't throttling, and I cannot seem to get any other frequency to report either after trying 100mhz decreases down to 2.5ghz. Odd thing is Windows 7 system panel reports the e6400 2.3ghz @3.7ghz, but cpuz still shows stock speed.

System feels sluggish now. Bios has never been flashed, i'll go check revision just now.

Rebuilt the system, cleared cmos and it still won't lock on.

    Re: Abit IP35 Not Overclocking

Dude did you installed some overclocking software/utilities? That´s very odd since once you set the overclock in the BIOS its done....

A question, in safe mode the overlclock doesnt work too? Also, did you tested another S.O ?

Dificult to understand but seens to be some S.O related problem. I never had this kind of trouble too.

Hope you can find out a solution.

    Good Luck !

    Re: Abit IP35 Not Overclocking

No I have only ever overclocked in bios. No overclocking software used at all.

Not tried safe mode will go give it a shot. What is S.O? If you mean OS then yeah, both XP and Windows7 both have the same problem with me, both recent installs too.

    Re: Abit IP35 Not Overclocking

    hummmm,

Pretty hard to find out what´s going on with your RIG. I will give it a shoot in the dark, download the last BIOS for the IP35 and make a BIOS update (in DOS mode or memory stick, do not make the bios update in windows mode). After the BIOS update make a Full Clear CMOS....

Link to the last IP35 BIOS >> http://forums.hexus.net/abit-care-he...-stepping.html

Reconfigure everything, but at stock settings... Load your O.S (yes i mean O.S with my S.O sry i´m brazilian, hard to write english corretly) and see if evething is ok.

Then make your O.C and load your O.S to see if anything goes nice !

Good Luck dude hope you got it fixed soon !

    Re: Abit IP35 Not Overclocking

Just a quick thing to check, do you have uGuru installed? It's has overclocking options and sometimes if the overclock settings in the program are set to standard it over-rides the BIOS. Easy way to check is stop it running at startup then simply reboot with the correct bios settings.

Had the same problem myself the other week after needing to clear the CMOS. It could also be speedstep, try checking the clockspeed under load.

No never used uGuru, never worked anyway.

I really am stuffed. I have no idea what to do.

I think its going to have to be new mobo time, with abit being stuffed. ATM CSS has dropped from 170-200fps down to 50-60.

    its unbearable.

I will try the bios tonight, although i do not have a floppy disc drive on this computer. Haven't owned one in years..

    Re: Abit IP35 Not Overclocking

    Hmm think something is borked.

Updated the bios, very flash mr Buff ty.

Started up as 2.17ghz in bios and windows/cpuz. Tried for 3.7ghz, nope. Running at 3.0ghz now had to bump c-voltage up to 1.485. I have turned off speedstep, cpuz immediately after restart showed it jumping between 2.2ghz and 3.0ghz with voltage moving around 1.35. Settled down to 3.0ghz after 30 seconds and voltage now stable - 1.448.

Could be PSU, its 450w two years old. Need to go get gf so cant mess around further but happy getting something other than stock! Cheers guys.... still wonder why it just stopped working though.

    Re: Abit IP35 Not Overclocking

Both EIST and C1E drop down your vCORE and multiplier to safe power. Once overcloking, is recommended to shutt down those feadures...

Actually i like C1E..... Drops a little my vCORE and my multiplier when my CPU isnt at load. Lower iddle temps, lower vCORE and power demands... My E8400/650i both like´s C1E and i have no problems at all using it with overclock.

But EIST is problematic with overclock, i never used this feadure. About your problems, 3.7Ghz for one E6400 is too much. Try to stay between 3.0 and 3.4 for daily use. The diference in performance is very small.... Your CPU is OK? Stable at stock settings ?

Hope is not a motherboard problem, anyway i´m using my FP-IN9 for about 2 years now with a hell of volts on it (1.58v N.B and 1.375v vCORE) and she is runnig perfecly fine, i love my IN9 even with the little VCORE problem that she have.

    Good Luck dude !

    Re: Abit IP35 Not Overclocking

I notice the difference. All my games are set to show me so even if I can't feel it I know it.

3.6ghz for the first couple of months until I could get 3.7 stable. I've seen them hit 4ghz, not too much at all I just don't have cooling sorted for anything else. and crap ram.
